IDW Publishing announced during New York Comic Con last week that it will launch its new Sonic the Hedgehog comic on April 4, 2018. Ian Flynn, a writer for the previous Archie Comics Sonic the Hedgehog series, will write the comic.

Tyson Hesse, who worked on the opening animation for the Sonic Mania game, drew the promotional art below, but he will not be drawing the interior art for the comic

Sega ended its partnership with Archie Comics in July, and ended the long-running Sonic the Hedgehog comic, which ran for 24 years and 290 issues. The company then announced that it is partnering with IDW Publishing for a new comic.

The latest game release in the franchise is Sonic Mania, which shipped on August 15 in the West, and August 16 in Japan. The game launched for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The franchise is also getting the Sonic Forces game for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 7 in North America, and November 9 in Japan.

Paramount Pictures announced earlier this month that it has acquired the rights to develop a film for the franchise.
