Live-action adaptation of Ryohei Saigan's Kamakura Monogatari manga opened in Japan in December

Hong Kong film distributor Edko Films announced on Monday that it will screen Destiny - Kamakura Monogatari, the live-action film of Ryohei Saigan's Kamakura Monogatari manga, in Hong Kong beginning on May 10. Edko Films is streaming a Chinese-subtitled trailer for the film.

The film opened in Japan last December.

Takashi Yamazaki (Always: Sunset on Third Street, Stand By Me Doraemon) directed the film, penning the script, and handling the visual effects. Hikaru Utada performed the film's theme song "Anata" (You).

The manga's story centers on mystery writer Masakazu Isshiki, who lives with his wife Akiko in Kamakura, as they encounter strange incidents and creatures such as kappa and gods of poverty. Masato Sakai is playing Masakazu Isshiki, while Mitsuki Takahata is playing Akiko Isshiki. The rest of the cast includes Shinichi Tsutsumi, Min Tanaka, Jun Kunimura, Hiroko Yakushimaru, Tomokazu Miura, Sakura Andou, Mikako Ichikawa, Tsuyoshi Muro, Jun Kaname, Kouji Ohkura, Hiroshi Kanbe, Arata Furuta, Mayu Tsuruta, Kazuko Yoshiyuki, Isao Hashizume, and Tamao Nakamura.

Saigan launched the manga in Futabasha's Manga Action magazine in 1984, before moving it to Futabasha's Manga Town magazine in 2000, where it has been running ever since. Futabasha published the manga's 34th compiled book volume last July.
