Yo-kai Watch 4 Switch Game Delayed to Spring 2019

Tokyo Game Show promo, gameplay videos also streamed

Level 5 announced on Friday that its Yo-kai Watch 4 Nintendo Switch game has been delayed until spring 2019 to further improve the quality of the game. The game was originally slated to launch this winter. The developer also began streaming a Tokyo Game Show promotional video and gameplay video for the game on Friday.

The game will "connect" the three "worlds" of original franchise protagonist Keita, Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: Oni-ō no Fukkatsu film protagonist and Keita's daughter Natsume, and the upcoming protagonist of the Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends film Shin.

Level 5 announced the Yo-kai Watch franchise in 2011 with a game, manga, and anime already planned. The first game launched in July 2013 and the first anime launched in January 2014. The franchise is Level 5's third cross-media project after Inazuma Eleven and Little Battlers eXperience.

Yo-kai Watch 3 launched for Nintendo 3DS in two versions — Yo-kai Watch 3: Sushi and Yo-kai Watch 3: Tempura — in July 2016. The company later released a Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki version in December 2016. Yo-kai Watch 3 will launch in North America on February 8 and in Europe this winter.

The latest television anime in the franchise, Yo-kai Watch: Shadowside, premiered in Japan in April. The fifth and latest film in the franchise, Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends, will open in Japan on December 14.
