Bofuri Blu-ray Released Monday (Updated)

posted on by Andrew Osmond

On Monday August 2, Funimation will release the series Bofuri on Blu-ray. Update - The story originally omitted the fact that Bofuri was scheduled to be released in both standard and limited Blu-ray editions, with the limited edition including six art cards, a 120-page art book, a gaming playmat and a sticker. However, Shiroi Hane reports in the comments that the limited edition is already sold out.

The story centres on Kaede Honjō, who is invited by her friend Risa Shiramine to play a virtual reality MMO game with her. While Kaede doesn't dislike games, what she really, truly dislikes is being in pain. She creates a character named Maple, and decides to put all her points in VIT to minimize pain. As a result, she moves slowly, can't use magic, and even a rabbit can get the best of her. But as it turns out, she acquires a skill known as "Absolute Defense" as a result of her pumping points into VIT, as well as a "Counter Skill" that works against special moves. Now, with her ability to nullify all damage, she goes on adventures.

Shin Oonuma (Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, WATAMOTE) and Mirai Minato (Masamune-kun's Revenge, Sunohara-Sō no Kanrinin-san) directed the series at SILVER LINK. Fumihiko Shimo (Anima Yell!, New Game!) was in charge of series composition. Kazuya Hirata (Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Sunohara-Sō no Kanrinin-san) designed the characters and served as chief animation director.

Funimation will also release the series Gleipnir on Blu-ray. Funimation described the series:

Gleipnir follows typical high schooler Kagaya Shuichi after he discovers that he can turn into a cartoon dog with a gun. Yes, you read that right. Kagaya, after finding that one of his classmates is trapped in a fire, discovers that he can turn into a dog with a giant gun. He saves the girl, and the two share the knowledge of Kagaya's secret.

But Kurea Aoki has other motives. She's on the hunt for her family's killer—her sister. Just how far will she go for retribution? And at what cost to Kagaya?

Kazuhiro Yoneda (Yona of the Dawn, Kabukibu!) directed the anime at PINE JAM. Shinichi Inotsume (The Price of Smiles, PERSONA 5 the Animation) supervised the series scripts, and Takahiro Kishida (Baccano!, Haikyu!!) designed the characters. Ryōhei Sataka composed the music. H-el-ical// (former Kalafina member Hikaru Masai) performed the anime's opening theme song, and Mili performed the ending theme song "Ame to Taieki to Nioi" (Rain, Bodily Fluids, and Smell).

Funimation will also release the first season of Yu-Yu Hakusho on Blu-ray, carrying the first 28 episodes of the series. This set also includes two art cards.

The series follows 14-year-old delinquent Yusuke Urameshi, who dies after saving a child in a car accident. The Spirit World is surprised by his death and offers him a chance to come back as a "spirit detective" who is tasked with defeating demons. Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter X Hunter) published the original Yu Yu Hakusho manga from 1990 to 1994, while the television anime adaptation ran from 1992 to 1995,

Anime Limited will release a standard Blu-ray edition of the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
