Sony Pictures Enterainment chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra stated in a conference call on Thursday that Sony is going to launch Crunchyroll on Amazon channels in Southeast Asia and India "in the next couple of months." He added that the company is "building up the inventory of products" to offer for Crunchyroll in Southeast Asia.

Crunchyroll is available throughout Southeast Asia, but available content varies per country or territory due to licensing restrictions. Most seasonal anime simulcasts in Southeast Asia are sub-licensed from a regional license holder, such as Muse Communication and MediaLink Entertainment Limited, who may also operate their own streaming services (Muse Asia for Muse Communication, Ani-One for MediaLink).

Sony's Funimation Global Group completed its acquisition of Crunchyroll from AT&T on August 9, 2021, after the company first announced the acquisition in December 2020. The purchase price was US$1.175 billion, and the proceeds were paid in cash at closing. Funimation's home video releases are now listed under Crunchyroll.
