METROCON 5: Florida's Largest Anime Convention
July 6-8, 2007
TAMPA BAY, FL, May 15, 2007 – METROCON's brand new Contest Upload System is now online! This system will make the process of submitting AMVs, Fan Films, and Anime Idol recordings to METROCON easier for everyone. Users can now manage their files in their own personal accounts and submit entries without having to mail in CDs or forms. To use the system, go to any of the contest pages on the convention website and follow the directions. The Content Upload System is a sub-system of METROCON's Volunteer and Panel System which allows users to easily sign up for volunteer hours or submit panels and events, and vendors/artists to reserve and pay for booths completely online.
METROCON is a weekend-long celebration of the numerous facets of Japanese popular entertainment – from anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), J-pop and J-rock (Japanese pop and rock music, performed by “idols”) to cosplay (costume design and performance) and video games.
Events at METROCON this year include: - The “Anime Human Chess Match” - Year 4, The Anime Fan Film Festival, “Anime Idol” J-Pop/J-Rock Competition, an all weekend long Riverwalk Pirate Show, a Superhero Stuntshow, a concert featuring the alternative rock band Eyeshine, a formal ballroom dance, Artists' Alley; A “gong show style” cosplay competition; costume contest; dealers'/exhibition room, “DDR Extreme” Tournaments, - An Anime Music Video contest (AMVs), - Official convention screenings of new North American releases, - Panels with North American anime industry guests, - Live Celebrity Commentaries with the industry guests, - Dances and karaoke, - The METROCADE video game room and finally, continuous hours of Japanese anime and related programming.
METROCON takes place at the Tampa Convention Center located in downtown Tampa, Florida.
