Extreme Anime Radio Launches Online Dance Contest
New Nintendo 3DS to be the potential grand prize for the first competition, open to female ballet dancers with an interest in the Japanese culture or Japanese animation
New York, NY – Extreme Anime Radio, the number one Internet radio station for mainstream Japanese music and songs from Japanese animation (Anime), has announced an online dance contest where fans of the Japanese culture are invited to record themselves dancing to a Japanese song and upload it to the Internet for the chance to win a great prize.
The first “Sarah Yoshida Dance-Off”, named after the mascot of the radio station, will be focused on the disciplines of ballet and ‘en pointe’ dancing. Female ballet dancers who live in the United States and Canada, and have an appreciation for the Japanese culture, can participate.
Interested female participants are asked to record themselves dancing in ballet or pointe style to an anime song, or any song from Japanese pop, Japanese rock or Japanese video games, and upload their performance to YouTube where it can be seen by others and be judged by a panel. Gift cards to the PlayStation Store, XBox Live and Nintendo will be awarded to the top dancers.
If at least twenty dancers participate in the contest, one grand prize winner will be awarded with a brand new Nintendo 3DS portable game system.
“The dance contest is a fun and exciting way for dancers who have a love for Japan and its culture to express themselves,” explained Jose Ramos, manager of Extreme Anime Radio and founder of the contest. “We've had ideas for dance contests twice in the past, but they didn't really get off the ground. I'm a firm believer that the third time's the charm, and with Internet technology advancing rapidly, especially with social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter that allow us to spread the word to others, I think we'll be successful this time.
“Our initial dancing contest is open to female ballet dancers,” Ramos continued. “It's not just ‘Princess Tutu’ anymore. Our female participants will be free to dance a ballet or pointe solo to whatever Japanese anime, pop, rock or video game song they wish. They can record their videos wherever they wish, be it their living room or bedroom, their dance studio, or outdoors. They can wear anything that they wish, from a traditional ballet outfit to street clothes, or perhaps in full-out costume play. Performances will be judged and scored, but the most important thing is for the participants to show their love of dance and their interest in everything about Japan. This contest will truly enhance everyone's perception of the arts, and allow participants to express their natural creativity. Most importantly, everyone who participates will have a good time.”
The “Sarah Yoshida Dance Off” contest in the category of Female Ballet/Pointe Solo is now open to entries. Female ballet dancers in the United States and Canada are invited to visit the official contest website, located at www.animedance.info. The website will provide more information about the contest, instructions on how to enter and submit videos, a full list of rules, and a list of prizes that will be awarded. Visitors to the website can also learn about Extreme Anime Radio, and can also read an introduction to the radio station's mascot Sarah Yoshida, who just happens to be an excellent dancer herself.
All entries to the contest must be submitted by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on Sunday, June 5, 2011. The entry deadline may change based on the number of entries received. Videos will then be judged, and the winners will be announced on the contest website and on the radio station when the judging is complete.
Female contestants must be residents of the United States or Canada and be at least 18 years of age, or under adult supervision, to participate.
