About Visit Penang Year 2015: Year of Festivals

George Town, 14 Mar 2015. Going for another ‘first’ after the first Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2015 in February, the first ever indoor and outdoor anime event will add colour to Penang's Esplanade and Dewan Sri Pinang for two days on 23rd and 24th May 2015. Part of the Visit Penang Year 2015's programme, this event adds to the endless celebrations throughout the year that confirms Penang as the place ‘where festivities never end’.

It's not for nothing 2015 was announced as Visit Penang Year and themed as Year of Festivals because here's where festivals happen each month and they range from cultural, religious, sporty and to the creative arts. Home-grown arts festivals unique to Penang such as George Town Festival, Penang Island Jazz Festival and Penang World Music Festival have drawn in visitors and arts enthusiasts for years now.

In May, Penang Anime Matsuri Summer Party 2015 is set to leave its mark on fans of this genre and also a way to attract the ever-growing anime fan population such as the one from Japan. Organised by SOZO, a company experienced in organizing events such as Anime Festival Asia in Singapore, Japan Music Festival and Miku Expo in Jakarta, PAM2015 will see an exciting line-up including performances by top anisong artists, DJs, indoor exhibition, cosplay showcase and competition. PAM2015 will certainly stand out as a festival to go to as it brings into light a sub culture that is growing fast, offering an escapade to many and a community-based hobby or interest to most – freedom to express themselves.

Without a doubt, PAM2015 is a terrific addition to VPY2015: Year of Festivals that promises unforgettable events such as stamina-testing sport of the Dragon Boat Festival that is becoming known globally in May, the Ramadan bazaar that explodes with exotic flavours in June and the somber but made no less spectacular by the crowds of believers during St. Anne's Day.

So, through January right up to December of 2015 we look forward to welcoming you with a colourful, if not an unforgettable festival. Penang, it is truly ‘Where the Festivities Never End’.
