diletta's Who's The Cuck Now? is a frustrating and disappointing read for me. Self-aware in tone and frequently referencing common story beats in media that focus on cuckoldry, it doesn't go far enough to make full use of its premise. This makes the final product feel somewhat half-baked and like a waste of potential.

The setup here is pretty typical for this genre of doujin, with the protagonist Komizo working for a cartoonishly dickish boss who just so happens to be married to the hottie Yuika. While out on a beer run on his boss' command, Komizo comes across a shady fortune teller who sells him a mysterious button that can supposedly grant him any wish he desires. Komizo presses the button, and then the universe keeps aligning in ways that allow him to have sex with Yuika behind his boss' back.

To be clear, Who's The Cuck Now? is a work where there are reality warping powers at play featuring characters who are borderline aware that they are in a smutty doujin, and yet the actual sex scenes featured in this work are incredibly grounded and vanilla. By this works own conceit, ANYTHING could happen within the text and it would feel justified and motivated by the tone and framework. Instead, Who's The Cuck Now? reads as boring for never even getting close to exploring the full potential of its premise and quippy as it never turns a critical eye on its subject matter, as all good meta-fiction should.

In fact, Who's The Cuck Now?'s more muted tone and exploration of this idea makes me question why this is a doujin at all. With its only slightly elevated premise and more grounded physical actions, this story would be far better suited to being told in a live-action format. I'm not saying that it would have been easy for diletta to produce a live-action version of this story rather than a drawn one, but I do know that they've been at this long enough that they should realize what kinds of stories are best suited for a given medium.

If I'm coming across as being overly critical of Who's The Cuck Now?, it's only because I fully see the potential of this work. NTR doujins, and the concept of cuckoldry broadly, are now so commonplace that I'd love for there to be more work that attempts to unearth why it's risen to prevalence or parody the material in some socially informed ways. Who's The Cuck Now? sets up this exploration, but executes on none of those ideas and is instead a fairly forgettable read that I can't recommend to anyone outside of the biggest NTR fans.

There are a lot of NTR stories in this guide so I'm definitely gonna keep an eye open for stories that try to at least be creative with their setups. Some have been bland, but I do think this one at least tries to go for a unique approach to the standard NTR formula. What I like about Who's The Cuck Now? is that the whole thing plays out like a parody of the typical NTR story. It starts off hard in the opposite direction, focusing on a character who apparently has been cucked by the same guy his entire life, only to literally press a button and find himself in the position of the bull (for those don't know, a bull is a term used to describe somebody that does the cucking). Suddenly, our protagonist gets to bang his bully's wife and steal her away right up until the very end.

What's funny about this story is that pretty much every sex scene is lampshaded like hell because they're just typical tropes and dialogue that are repeated from other typical NTR stories. What I find funny is that the protagonist is aware that all of these setups are weird and keeps pointing them out but will still indulge in having sex with the wife. She says that she hates it, but it's very clear that she is just saying the typical stolen partner dialogue while secretly loving it and the best part is that she ends up revealing that she loves it without really any pushback. I feel like if it wasn't clear that it was a parody, then the disconnected dialogue between our two leads would just make this feel awkward. But as a comedy, it's absolutely hilarious. The sex scenes are fine, but it's very clear that you're probably supposed to laugh at the story more than you're supposed to be stimulated by it. The whole situation was blatantly manufactured in order to get a specific ending out of a specific setup. It comes and goes to do exactly what it wants to do and all I can say is that I enjoyed my time with it as brief as it was.
