i was planning to buy some manga sleeves for my collection ,but I have some books that were in plastic already because they are M rated. Is there any ill effect that the plastic will have on the books that I am unaware of if I keep the book wrapped? One thing I seem to notice that the book looks fine with the plastic on but it is slightly bent with the plastic off. That has happened with two different books that had plastic on it when it was bought

The book'll probably be fine without it, but if you want to put protective sleeves on your manga, if the manga sleeves are made by the same company as one that makes comic sleeves, then they're probably just fine to put your books in- I've had comics that've spent over a decade in these sort of sleeves with no ill effects [they're ideal for storing comics btw- not because they'll be worth money, but because they're a convienent way to store comics without damaging them]

I work at a comic book store.
It seems like the poly bags begin to deteriorate at around 20 years. Your shrink wrap will probably last around that long. Maybe a little less. If the shrink wrap was done too tightly, you'll get a bend in the book (which could probably be fixed with a little coaxing). Mylar bags last longer, but I haven't seen those in a manga size. |
