I'm looking to pick up a new series and I'm tored between Saiyuki or Getbackers. I don't want to pick up both just yet though. Anyways, what do you guys think is the better series with a more interesting plot?

My vote goes for Getbackers by far. The plot picks up around volume 4, so you may be discouraged early on. But, the artwork and characters are much more solid than the ones of Saiyuki, in my opinion.
Saiyuki is very nice to look at and fun to read, but it's rather repetative and you get the feeling that it's there more as eye candy than as a story-driven series. Not saying it isn't good, because it is, I would just choose GetBackers first. However, the Saiyuki manga is better than the anime. |

Go for Getbackers. It's one of the best shonen mangas currently being published. Like Liann said, stick with it until volume 4 (I almost gave it up after 2).
As for Saiyuki, I don't see anything special about it, and alot of its popularity is due to its bishonen in my opinion. Characters are ok, but the plot and storytelling bored me. Then again, I've read the original Journey to the West, so its hard for me not to be critical. |

Getbackers. It caught me with the idea that there is a team that can get back anything....but what they are tasked with getting back is another thing.
As for Saiyuki....uh, something about a virus......Guns....guns...a Sil-Eighty.... Wait, that was Initial D with Mako and Sayuki of Impact Blue..... |

GetBackers has my vote over Saiyuki also. Saiyuki's characters were just weird to me. I thought GetBackers would have more mystery overtones to it but really it's all action.

Personallly, I like Saiyuki basically because I'm very familiar with Journey to the West. Haven't seen the anime yet, but the manga itself isn't bad.
GetBackers...well, I've only read one volume and when I finished it, I was impressed.  The occasional panty shots are not exactly what I'm used to.
Which one? I say both. |

Personally I would go with Get Backers. It's a guy's manga.
Saiyuki is really for girls. |

^^ Is it really? I wouldn't think girls would be into that, especially with the topless chick and all.
Anyway, I have both and like both, but I would say it depends on what you like. If you're into fantasy/journey west type stuff, I'd say go with Saiyuki. If you're into more comedy/mystery type things, I'd say go with Getbackers. If you're into both (or neither), well, then I can't help you there. |

I've seen the getbackers anime and I hated it so when I saw the manga I thought it was gonna be crap. I flipped through some of the pages and it seemed different from the anime. So I bought it and I loved it, well maybe love is a strong word but it was good. Currently I have volumes 1-5 and I anticipate future volumes.
Saiyuki (or how I like to say it "Say yuckie") when I read the first volume, I don't know seemed corny to me. For some reason everytime I pick up a new series that i'm not really excited about I have to see it through so I always get the next volume. Picked up vol.2 it was a little better, and it continued on like that with the other volumes. So i'm currently enjoying it and will be picking up vol.5 sometime this week. Overall both are good but for me it took time for me to really like say yuckie. So I would probably get getbackers first and then maybe later on pick up say yuckie. Or you might feel differently and do the opposite. |

No, not really. It's a shounen series, but it has obvious female appeal with its wispy-haired guys. |

Kind of like DN Angel then? I think I'll pick up Get Backer than since there's an overwhelming amount of recommendation for that than saiyuki. BTW, is it totally differnt from the anime (how?) or just have several things rearrange. |

Umm..sure...except I think DNAngel is shoujo.
The manga has an additional story about an organ farm; the anime has a fluffy story about Natsume. Other than that, the two are just about the same. |

Anytime the guys in the manga are more angsty than the girls. It is a girl manga.
Anytime the guys in the manga go ga-ga on a page with fan-service. It is a guy manga. Saiyuki - The guys literally go out of their way to reject girls. I mean literally out of their way west. Get Backers - The guys literally go out of their way to get a girl. Even if she's going to kill them. |
