What do you mean by "anime books"? Do you mean anime in book form? Then, thats manga and there is a whole forum here devoted to it. Or do you mean books about anime? |

Hello!!! Welcome the the fourms! Before you post any more you should read Teh Rules. Now by anime books I think your talking about Manga. My favorite manga would have to be the Kenshin manga. It has everything from action to comedy, I think you should check it out especially if you are new to the genre. Good Luck!!

Yessss....please read "Teh Rules" before doing anything if you haven't already done so. Rule breakers shall be punished....
Anyway, if you're asking for some manga recommendations, the manga forum is the place to go. Also, please state what type of anime/book genre you like, since there are a lot of titles to choose from. It just makes recommending go much easier. ANN also has a page of the top 5 manga here. Another thing I would do is to go to a local Borders or Barnes and Noble and pull a few titles off the shelves and read a few pages. There are also two manga magazines in the U.S.: Shonen Jump: Shonen manga such as Naruto, Yu-gi-oh, and Hikaru no Go (check the lexicon located to your left for a dictionary of terms) Shoujo Beat: (Shoujo manga) romance, as well as solving cases and a volleyball manga Both mags go at 29.99 USD BTW, manga is pronounced mahn-ga, in which the a is said like an o. It just gets to me when people say it wrong.
Oh yeah, there is a genreal anime questions thread at the top of the anime forum, and also a general manga questions thread some where in the manga forum. |

If you're talking about regular books, WannabeAnimeGurl, I recommend a book which came out a couple of years ago called "Anime Explosion!" (The What? Why? and Wow! of Japanese Animation) by Patrick Drazen. The first half of this 350+ page book describes various aspect of anime and common themes which come up in it, such as how anime deals with nudity, religion, gay themes, war/anti-war themes, the spirit world, teenage girls, and so forth. The second half elucidates on specific cases ranging from Windaria to Sailor Moon to Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's quite an insightful read, both for new fans and veteran ones. Almost anyone could probably learn a lot from it.
