Hello,

I am preparing a website about psychological anime. The website will explain anime's that have a deep meaning behind them such as Haibane Renmai, Serial Experiments Laine. Anime that has religion, politics, ect invlolved, but not so much where thats exactly the plot.

If you understand could you please help me out, and show me a list or the anime's you know that are like that.

Yes, I am new please don't attack me or anything, and am just seeking help. I have used this site for info for a long time. I just figured people would know what they where talking about here the most.

Thank You.

TEXHNOLYZE is a good example

Also, there's a lot of analysis, commentary and satire and stuff in PARANOIA AGENT

NARUTARU would also fall under this I guess *I like the show, but DAMN, it looks god-awful in terms of production*

There's a lot really...

I haven't seen FLCL yet, but I keep hearing that it was just something that the creators tossed together, but then people derived a lot of stuff that wasn't there in the first place...

BUT, that's only what I hear, so I wouldn't really know

... I should get down to watching that shouldn't I?

Yeah

I liked it a lot. It was really short though. I don't really understand why I liked it so much. I just did, and that was it. I mean it was a cool anime and it had some neat stuff, but usually it takes a lot more to like an anime.

I dunno, but I did look at what type of anime it was on here and it did say it was Psychological. I am still not exactly sure what it means. I will have to find out. You still should give it try though.

I have really only seen people that completely Hate it, or Completely Love it. I haven't seen much people that like it in between that, its kinda wierd.

Off the top of my head I would say:

Gunslinger Girl; which really looks into morality and human spirit. Not only in the position that the girls are in but also the support and respect they get in return and how that effects them.

Wolf's Rain; which has alot of deeper meaning to it and an ending which can really be taken several different ways and each interpretation is probably just as valid or probable and meaningful as the next. Not to mention it gives us a more raw perspective as to the purpose of life from both a socialogical and individual standpoint.

Another anime with religous symbolism would be Rahxephon. If you want a look into the sexual culture of Japan through anime without getting into hentai, check out Colorful. It may be a crazy off the wall comedy but it should prove some insight into the id of the japanese mind.

I think its about conformity and the strugle to keep ones individuality. Medicle Mechanica represents status quo and they are trying to smooth out the wrinkles in the brain (differences between people's thoughts) Shocked

Add Mind Game to your list. Probably the most unusual anime i have ever seen and it's thought-provoking.

There was also something in FLCL about the need for adolesence to grow up faster than they really should as exibited by Naota and Ninamori through the series.

How about Perfect Blue? It's one of the best animated psychological thrillers. I'm not sure if it’s the type of movie you are looking for or not. It was directed by Satoshi Kon who directed Paranoia Agent. It deals with identity issues.

I would also suggest Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. On the surface it is a political drama but has underlying themes about mans struggle with his bestial nature.

Both are great movies.

Add Interlude to the mix as well. It's about an unnamed boy who lives a normal life but is plauged by nightmares. One day he's thrust into an alternate reality which is a nightmare itself. Saved by a skilled female archer named Aya who seems to be the only living inhabitant of the world, he trys to make sense of things.

You cant forget Full Metal Alchemist which, I think, deals with the idea that everything is connected to and dependent upon the destruction of something else. Or Ghost in the Shell which questions what it means to be human.

Not liscenced yet but worth inclusion,

Macross 0: It deals with the modern world from the standpoint of a primative/modern encounter during a future war in the S. Pacific. Very good. Some simularity with Wolf's Rain. Shoji Kawamoi's best work I think.

Gantz: Basically about humanity at it's worst and how the modern world helps make us not the best people. Warning:Graphic nudity and violence.

Mononoke Hime: Nuff has been said about this one.

All the Best,

Nani?
