A bit rusty, but it's only the first episode. It's promising.

Not too bad at all. It's nice to hear they can at least say Japanese names. Iruka-sensei sounded like he was talking a little slow, but that's a very common thing when trying to compensate for mouthflaps in dubs.

Naruto's voice sounded pretty good for a first impression too Anime smile. I think this dub has a lot of potential for the future.

Eh.... what can i say? For some reason it sounded a lot like the english Luffy. Which is to say, Naruto sounded like he had a sore throat. But other wise, not too bad. At the very least, it's one of those voices that you could get used to. Can't say much until we see more of the acting behind the voice. From the little I know, the actress playing our favorite, spikey, Nine-talied friend is very experienced.

I'll post what I said on another thread...

My opinion:

1. GOD am I glad they pronounce Naruto's name right. I was so worried about that. So far, they've nailed it.

2. Naruto sounds like a six year old. I hope this all goes well...we'll have to see about that.

3. Mizuki sounds so-so

4. Iruka sounds terrible. They could not have chosen a worse voice for that character.

5. The overall delivery sounds kinda corny. I hope that they don't butcher all the emotional/internal monologue scenes with bad line delivery.

Can't wait till this saturday so I can make a proper judgement.

Wow. That was pretty well-done. This sounds promising.

I saw this and laughed my ass off at how childish they made it seem.

It was to be expected though.

You must've seen the Zatch Bell clip instead. Rolling Eyes Naruto doesn't sound childish. This is not a 4Kids dub. However, if you're one of those purist wierdos who loathe anything dubbed, this is expected of you. Wink

I think they've done a good job from the sound of it. Flanagan sounds a little iffy as Naruto, but not as bad as the woman who played Luffy in One Piece. She's probably just getting into character. No biggie. It's not like they chose David Moo and told him to use a kid's voice.* Laughing

*David Moo is the guy who plays Sanji in One Piece. Ugh.

Well that's good isn't it? Seeing how this show is aimed at children.

again, from the other thread that everyone missed Smile

After the first listen I really didn't get the best first impression, although the more time i hear it the more it's growing on me. The one thing I think even the Naruto purists must at least acknowledge is the proper pronounciation of the Japanese names (Naruto, Mizuki), and using "jutsu" instead of "technique".

The voice of Naruto is still hard to accept, especially after hearing so much of the Japanese dub, but I'm still going to give it a chance. In this one clip, you truly can't hear the range of emotions he shows, this is only the 'confused' Naruto we get to hear. Iruka I think fits the character pretty good, Mizuki I'm not to thrilled with.

Bottom line it's really impossible to judge the dub based on such a short clip, but as of now, it's promising as far I'm concerned and I'm looking forward to seeing the entire episode this weekend.

Sounds fine to me. Naruto in Japanese is high-pitched and raspy, and so is the English voice. God willing they won't do something lame and make Naruto end his sentences with some English variation on "dattebayo". Speech patterns like that just don't work in English; see the dub of Kenshin or Mao-chan for proof. Just leave it out, please. It isn't important to the character.

Considering how melodramatic, cornball and over-the-top the Naruto anime is, those of you expecting deep adult dramatic performances should go back and watch the Japanese; it's pretty 'childish' there too. You try to deliver a line like "Don't let him have that scroll, there's forbidden Jutsu in there!" and make it sound 'convincingly adult'. You can't, because the dialogue is written for children.

Yeah, its aimed at children but if you see any of the original unaltered japanese sub you can tell its aimed at a whole different age range. I'm guessing they're trying to get 10 year olds with this show, and in Japan I'm guessing the age range was leaning towards the 15 yr old mark. But then again, I could be wrong. I don't really care.

No, the target age in Japan has always been 8-12. The standards over there are different.

I'm not really impressed with it so far. Naruto's voice doesn't sound that bad, but Iruka's and Mizuki's made me cringe. It's hard to base an opinion, but from what I can see, it makes me just enjoy the sub more. (And believe me, I like both subs and dubs,so don't say that "You're one of those sub lovers, aren't you!?)
