All three are thought of as super funny by so many people, but some people think one is better than the other, which one do you think is the funniest? In my opinion I have to say Nichijou and Azumanga Daioh are, now before you all go "Lucky Star is funnier!' Or "Nichijou Sucks!" that's why I wanted to post this. I've seen all three series and I have to say Nichijou and Azumanga Daioh are by far the best in my opinion, but I want to hear yours, which anime do you think is the funniest and why. Very Happy

As a show, Azumanga Daioh is far and away my favorite, but I don't think it's necessarily the funniest. AzuDai's strength is that it isn't just a comedy; it's heartwarming as well.

I haven't seen Nichijou, but I've seen both Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh. Which one is funniest? It is really hard to say. The infamous Osaka spoiler[with a knife] scene still makes me fall out of my chair laughing just thinking about it. Overall, I prefer Lucky Star by half a point, because AzuDai's humor was a little hit and miss for me, while Lucky Star had a slow beginning but once it got into its stride had me laughing at every joke. Plus, I almost cried when spoiler[Kotonoha and her father were talking about her mother, and her mother's spirit posed in the pictured with them. It was so sweet and yet sad.]

If I were to put in order of funniest:
AzuDa -> Nichijou -> Lucky Star

AzuDa has Osaka, which automatically puts it in the lead. Tanizaki, when Chiyo's in the car, is priceless.

Nichijou has an odd comedy going for it, and it takes a while for it to get going, but one can't resist salmon falling from the sky or bicycle seats replaced with broccoli.

Lucky Star isn't what I'd call funny, though it did make me smile in places, but it's definitely more slow-paced, slice-of-life than comedy, imo.

All are collection worthy. Very Happy

I am not sure of what could be learned from the comparison. Sort of like imagining a space battle between the Enterprise and the Death Star.

Each of these anime work with their characters in completely different ways and they stand on their own that way. The all do feature a tight knit group of schoolgirls and offer an assortment of personality types but the similarity really ends there. (Why not include Pani-Poni Dash in the mix? Why not K-On?)

I would say Lucky Star's strong point is the conversation.

Azumanga Daioh focuses more on the growth of the girls. Note that the other shows don't include a teacher as much.

And Nichijou is skit based collage that delves directly into fantasies of the girls. The other shows don't have a robot that wants to be a girl or extended play of daydreams like the wooden-cube saga.

So I don't see the comparison.

I haven't seen Nichijou; all I can say is that it does look amusingly odd, but I don't know how long that amusement would last.

I have seen the other two and I far prefer Azumanga Daioh to Lucky Star. I didn't hate Lucky Star, but it felt very much like a creature of its moment and too much like otaku culture laughing up its own ass. The characters also sometimes seemed too much like calculated amalgams of tropes. Tellingly, my favorite parts were the 'Lucky Channel' sketches at the end. I liked Azumanga Daioh a lot. I felt that its humor was able to stand more on its own merits and it had much more believable, endearing characters who could feel very human.

You jest, but there are entire websites and internet fora dedicated to this subject and so so horribly much more.

Lucky Star was definetly an otaku show, this can mean that can mean some of it is a bit pandering, but for quite a few of us it is easy to connect. Raise your hand if you never to rarely did your homework, stayed up late, but somehow managed to do well in tests when it mattered. You have conversation pieces that seem surprisngly true, you want to clean when you have to study, what way do you eat something, do your traditions not quite fit what you would expect. And remember, a flat chest is a status symbol, and also the paraodies could be funny.

Azumanga Daioh was about characters, the child genius, the air head, the hyperactive girl, the shy one, and the straight man. The comedy comes from these personalities conecting with each other and the world, the main comedy I think came from how over the top they could be. I also consider this one my favourite, and personally funiest.

Nichijou, well I could find some quite funny bits, but it had a problem of being a bit to random that a point could be hard to see, now the Hakase bits kind of take out of realism, but was rather funny. My main problem was that I did not really conect with many of the characters likely exception with some of Mio's sister's pranks, I sympathised with Nano. The King on the cake was my favourite bit.

They were really different in areas, but still similliar in ways, I also feel maybe also chuck in Danshi Koukousei no Nichi, difference being the amount of involvment of guys. And everyone really has their moment of being a complete idiot.

Azumanga was by far the funniest, IMO. I loved Lucky Star for how cute it was, and it was funny at some points. It also worked as an otaku checklist. I did not enjoy Nichijou at all, expect some Prof and Nano parts. Seems my tastes are in line with the Japanese Smile.

Because the three mentioned are commonly compared to each other; YRYR, not so much. You'd really be bringing in every schoolgirl quartet series if you did that.

That was my point. Why not do that?

If you did, how many more titles would be brought in? Not that many. K-on I suppose but what others?

Lucky Star was the funniest for me, even if it's a little moe for my tastes. It literally had me cracking up at times, something I rarely do with shows anime or not.

I rewatched Azumanga not too long ago and was surprised to find it difficult to sit through. Can't put my finger on it but it just feels monotonous after Lucky Star's razor sharpness.

Because these three are special in that the comparisons betwixt and between them are rampant.

Off the top of my head there's also Hidemari Sketch, Natsuiro Kiseki and Upotte!!. Sasameki Koto and Strawberry Panic might also qualify.
