Yes, today during Study Hall in school I was thinking about Anime Times that I was working on and I thought to myself "I don't belong doing this and I could put my imagination to better use." I absolutly love to create which would fit into me creating my own Manga series.

I forgot to mention that this manga will be in book form; not video format as "Street Fighter Alpha" or "Ghost in the Shell." But as "Mega Man NT Warrior" and "Rurouni Kenshin." I feel this is a better Anime situation for me to be involved in other than the noobish techniques I was working on before.

Right Rolling Eyes

Okay, first off, manga = book (or at least drawings on paper). So obviously, this manga is going to be in "book form." The fact that you don't immediately know this is rather...not helping make you look intelligent.

So okay, you're creative. Can you draw? Can you tell a good story? Or do you have someone you can work with to do that? Also, are you Japanese, because if you're not it's not really manga then, just a comic, which is just fine.

You haven't really shown anything that would make me think you're capable of this, but hey, maybe I'm wrong.

Perhaps we should start a sticky topic for people to brianstorm and post up their own stories/ideas/etc and have people comment in there.

OK. One, yes I can draw and two I can tell a good story, and I will be working alone. Its OK for you to assume that I'm not capable of doing this.

For my first series I plan on sticking to sticking with a crime organization theme such as mobs in New York City; druglords if you will. A crime organization known as "The Claw" is running a drug network in New York to the far South. As The Claw is growing in power, a family from Japan known as the Chi's open a small store in Time Square. One night, members of The Claw break into the store, shoot and kill Kitashi's mother and father who were cleaning up around 10:00pm. The next day, Kitashi is sickened by the site of his bloody parents lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Kitashi notices a paper with a circle of a claw on it which is the Claw's symbol of death. From that point on, Kitashi dedicates his life to ridding New York of crime and to justify his parent's murders even if it means in the form of death.

The Claw? Sorry if but when someone says criminal orginization and Claw, I think Inspector Gadget.

Also, I don't really think that a sticky thread about brainstorming story ideas would be a good idea. I'm a writer myself and I like to keep ideas to myself or among a close knit group of friends that I trust. A thread about story ideas lays itself down to possible and eventual plagerism and could stifle creativity in a writer, story maker. Looking at your story and figuring out it's flaws itself is how I write my best stories. Even if I constantly end up editing it, at least I feel like I myself am creating the best story I can write.

Why is the person Japanese? Surely it would be more logical to have them as a Westerner in a Western setting as this avoids confliction of cultures and would certainly allow for the character to know 'the score' better. You dont expect a foreign migrant to understand the ins and outs of a foreign culture and if he doesnt 'get the lingo' then it will hamper all sorts of things, also you'd have to write him as a foreigner with a foreigners views based upon their culture(if they are fully intergrated as an American beforehand then there is no point in them being a foreigner)

Is there a reason for the families death? Or is it purely coincidental?

I may try and write something, but it would be purely text with written instructions as to people's locations and the scene around it...likely it will merely be snippets of conversation and description of events rather than a full blown story. I'll begin the planning stages...setting, current events, characters, general background and story outline, plus my thoughts on it.

Thanks to you guys for the comments now, I can work on future mistakes! : )

THESE are just samples. But the real series would be during the Feudal Japan era. To prove my intelligence to people who claim I'm not I will say to you:

THEME: Feudal Japan; Ninjas and Bandits
PLOT (A historical background) The word feudal means a loosly organized system of Government. This was first used during Middle Age Europe. In Europe's Dark Ages, Feudalism was Europe's main form of stability. The Roman Empire was Europe's "Government" since it has fallen Europe went into chaos. During Japan's Feudal age, society was ruled by the Emperor (which has a huge role in the comic series!) A new Emperor, Shino, comes to assume the role of Emperor. Which is good in a way for the people of Japan but it also has a negative affect. Shino is a corrupt Emperor and steals money from peasant workers. He pays workers less than what they should be payed and he orders many of his close associates to be killed because he does not want word to get out how he corrupts the Japanese people. A young boy named Hikira Ami is a member of the warrior class, the Samurai. When Shino holds a meeting outside of a town and discraces the people claiming they are lazy bums and should not be allowed to be living under the greatness of Japan, Hikira is furiated. As sunset approaches Hikira has decided to advance his training skills in a nearby dojo and something dark catches his eye.. Hikira is stunned to see that his Master Koji is being held against his will by Shino's Ninja clan and is being interrogated by Shino. Hikira over hears "Tell me or die!" Koji responds "Never!" Shino orders "Kill this damn fool!" At that moment a Ninja takes out his sword and stabs him through the chest. Hikira has witnessed the evils of this new Emperor and now is set on using the skills his master has tought him to avenge Koji.

Although a corrupt ruler is a good starting point for a villain; you must prove why he is corrupt. First, the Emperor of Japan doesn't pay workers, that's up to businessmen or shop ownrs. The only people the Emperor would pay would most likely be people close to him; advisors, assassins, guards, and then leave everything up to those people.
You'll also need to show how Shino is "corrupting the Japanese people". Making them poor isn't making them corrupt. It's a good sign of how heartless Shino is tho'.

Quote:

Just so you know, a samurai generally has a lord of some type that they are loyal to. If not, they are a ronin. You must be sure to state which Hikira is. Fans of Japanese stories are adamant about getting this kinda stuff right.
I'd suggest making Hikira have a lord he is employed by; and in turn have that lord loyal to the Emperor. That way, you get a nice conflict of interest - either go with his word and honor, and follow the orders of a corrupt lord, or go with his heart and conscience, and turn his back on the way of the samurai.
Conflicted Interests = Good story tellin'.

Story wise, it'd probably be better if Shino killed the town as an example. Just insulting them is kinda lame. This emperor is supposed to be corrupt and evil, not just insulting.
Also, IIRC, Japanese Emperors never really went out and visited towns. They gave orders and had others do that kinda stuff.

From what you say here, it sounds as if he's just travelling and happens to stop by a random dojo. However, in the next paragraph, you state that his master is there. Which is it?
AND, dark things at sunset do not catch eyes. I just don't get that one.

Quote:

Why is Koji being interrogated? Is that a plot point you intend to bring up, or just weren't thinking about it yet? Having a good reason for Koji's death here would be nice - something the readers weren't expecting. Naturally we'd think "Oh, maybe he was gonna rebel and kill Shino" or something. Turn that on it's ear and have it be that Koji was a conspirator, he HELPED put Shino on the throne, and then Shino had him killed. This would tie back in to your point earlier about him killing allies.
Secondly, if an Emperor sent ninjas after someone, there'd be no reason to be there themselves. Plus, again, Emperors didn't pay visits to shrines or dojos. (God I hope I remember that right).
Thirdly, it would be more interesting if Hirika got to the dojo before Koji was killed. That way we'd get to see the two interact before Koji is killed. It deepens the bond between the characters and the reader; that way, when Koji dies, we know what Hirika is losing. We feel the pain ourselves. I also think that the two should fight the ninjas together, and then Koji is killed.
This adds to Hirika's character by making him think that he wasn't strong enough; that he could have saved his master if only he was better.

I believe there was thread involving anime/manga ideas a while back as I remember posting my very own idea in it.

You might want to look through a few of these Answerman columns about people who have had the idea to make a manga/anime...
