Heya UK viewers - its Ghibli season on Film4 (which is now free to all people who have digital in some way at all,) Today was Castle of Cagliostro, and tomorrow is Kiki's Delivery Service. It's all good. I've even enjoyed the dub voices on them...
Roll on the free UK anime... We've been shafted for long enough. I've got all the Miyazaki season bookmarked to watch as I do love all the films. Castle of Cagliostro was a fun one to be honest. Even my casually interested brother really enjoyed it. I know there are some people who dislike Ghibli, but they are some consitently enjoyable films. I'm looking forward to seeing Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Nausicaa in an English dub. 5pm to 7pm are now definately taken until this season finishes!!! |

Congratulations to Ghibli/Miyazaki fans across the pond! We just had a festival on one of our cable channels a while ago too. I think Castle of Cagliostro was the only major movie they didn't show. I'm presuming that was because the U.S. distribution rights lie elswhere (I don't believe it was in the Disney deal), but I don't know the legalities so I'm not sure.
Laputa and Nausicaa are two of my favorite anime movies, and I like to throw them into the DVD player when I'm in the mood for a happy ending. Hope you enjoy them, and let us know what you thought. |

Useful.. I've still not heard the new DIsney dub for Laputa since I have the R2J version.

Castle of Cagliostrois not a Ghibli film. It's a Miyazaki film but I think it was made before Studio Ghibli was formed.

That is correct. Studio Ghibli formed right after Nausicaa, so technically, Nausicaa isn't a Ghibli film either... but maybe Miyazaki hired all the people who worked on Nausicaa for Ghibli, so the maybe Nausicaa can technically be a Ghibli film in that way. Either way Ghibli was not know as Ghibli until after Nausicaa (I think it was formed as a reasult of the success of Nausicaa.) That might make Laputa (Castle In The Sky) the actual first "Ghibli film" www.nausicaa.net should have more info on this.

It's great to see anime films on TV even though I have all of the Ghibli collection on DVD (apart from Only Yesterday, but I've pre-ordered that).
I watched the Castle of Cagliostro at my Nan's house and everyone watching it enjoyed it (except the ad breaks). |
