It seems as if i can never receive the "full" experience with manga that i get with anime. I love manga, but the when it comes to deep emotional scenes, manga can't cut it for me. I've watched animes and i am man enough to admit that i shedded tears, but when reading the manga counterparts, not a drop falls (even if i read manga 1st). I cant really see myself crying while reading a manga. What bout u guys? anyone cried while reading a manga? Do u think i will ever get that full experience, or am i just not the manga readign type?

I admit that sometime when watching animes, I get tears in my eyes and of course the moody musical accompaniment and believable voice acting sure helps it. But if a scene is truly dramatic, I think you will feel the same even with the manga. My favorite manga moment is also my favorite dramatic sequence in any medium (in Gantz spoiler[when Tae dies in Kei's arms, damn that was sad]). And sometime the anime adaptation can simply get those scenes wrong.
Also there is anime type (or anime scenes) that I can't bear watching when I liked the manga counterpart. For example; I can't stand excessive fan service in anime but I actually enjoy it in manga, same thing with over the top cuteness, it seriously kills me in anime but in manga I like it. So for those experience anime won't do. |

Manga has made me cry. Many times. Maybe I'm just a very emotional person, but I'm quick to relate to, or at least sympathize, with characters.
There really are some emotionally powerful titles out there. You probably just haven't found a great one yet. Want to cry? Try this. I have a tear in my eye just thinking about it

Admittedly I've never had a manga make me cry, but at the same point I also have only cried in one anime that I can recall, Wolf's Rain (granted I was bawling at points in that one). I do think you have a point though because even with other books versus film, a film is more likely to make me cry than a book is (I actually only have a few books that have made me cry, while a fair number of movies have)
I wouldn't say it's not a full experience though, since I enjoy manga more than anime most of the time. It's just a different experience. |

I think a lot of it is how imaginative are you when you read. Are you just reading or do envision what's happening, or do you decide what the characters sound like or move like when you read? I think a lot of that helps become more involved in a story.
I'd say anime and manga have both made me cry about the same amount. The most notable being at the end of the Paradise Kiss manga, I burst out crying. I lent it to my friend who I told she would be crying at the end and didn't believe me until she read it. The anime that always makes me teary eyed is Millennium Actress, the end always gets me. |

I have never cried while reading a manga, have while watching anime. However there are series where if it gets dramatic, I will feel the power of the whole meaning, how much it means to a character when something happens to them. The most powerful manga that I have felt so far has been One Piece, gotta show some love to Oda chan, and then Hellsing, with the struggles of Seras.

It kind of varies for me.... There are parts in the Furuba anime that make me cry, but the same parts of the manga don't. Then there's Saikano, which will make anyone with a heart bawl their eyes out. I marathoned the anime and started crying at ep 9, and didn't stop till the end....
But with the manga I was just as sad. There are also sappy parts in things like Fushigi Yuugi that make me cry (like..spoiler[When Tamahome's family dies and when Nuriko dies!!! ]) But in the anime it wasn't nearly as much as it was in the manga. I think it depends on the series and one's connection with it.

saikano was one saddest animes there was. I cant "Connect" to alot of teh mangas i read. I do find a good series every now and than. I think it might be my imagination.
Plus, it doenst sound right with the characters speakign english. When i read a manga, alot of times i imagine a poorly dubbed anime in my mind for some reason. lol. Maybe i have a liking to teh japanese language. Maybe i'm more of a listening person. Its the music/voices that get me. For example, just by listening to some music from an anime, an overwhelming flow of emotion occurs (mostly from the memories it evokes). Perfect example is the FFX piano songs. |

Some Mangas make me cry, some Animes make me cry. It's how the story is and how it is written. I can't generally say what makes me more cry. But the anime who makes me most cry of was "Die letzten Glühwürmchen". I think in english it is called "Graves Of The Fireflies".

I can tear up rather quickly watching anime, but manga doesn't even come close to doing that to me, so as a consequence, I watch far more anime than I read manga. The only two manga series that put a lump in my throat has been Saikano (though the emotional impact pales when compared to the anime IMO), & certain parts of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The ending of the anime Chrono Crusade had me in tears, yet whilst I actually prefer the equally sad ending depicted in the manga, I didn't shed a tear when I read it.

Yep, if u haven't seen it, i hope ur in for a good cry. Chrono crusade's ending was really sad also.

Here in Germany we didn't get Saikano as Anime, but only as Realfilm and as Manga. But the Manga is here called She, the ultimate weapon (great German titel^^).

I haven't seen a lot of Anime, because I don't have one anime series on tv where I live. In manga though, I've cried a few times. One time I remember well was in Naruto, when Haku sacrificed himself for Zabuza and they do all those flashback things and Naruto is screaming at Zabuza because Haku sacrificed his life for him and then Zabuza runs into the giant mob and kills the leader guy to avenge Haku...or something like that. Its been awhile. (Why I cried for something in NARUTO?! I do not know...)
Oh, and also, I nearly cried in Ranma 1/2 at the ending...because it was so crappy... |

I think I've cried once at manga....The first time I read FMA, when I got to the chapter where spoiler[Tucker turned Nina and Alexander into the chimera.] There were a couple parts of Nausicaa where I got a little teary too, but I usually don't cry at manga. To really start crying I have to have music and everything in the background. Print just doesn't affect me as much.
