I hope someone can help me with this. I just picked up Oh My Goddess volume 24 about 3 weeks ago at my Barnes and Noble, Borders hasn't gotten any since volume 22. I thought it had been an unusually long time between volume 23 and 24 in terms of their release. I had been so busy during the holidays and since with family emergencies I didn't think much on it. Low and behold I find volume 25 tonight at Barnes and Noble. I thought to myself that seemed odd volume 25 would be released so soon after volume 24. I decided to check ANN and this is what I found:
Oh My Goddess! (G.novel 24) 2006-08-09
Oh My Goddess! (G.novel 25) 2006-12-13
Oh My Goddess! (G.novel 26) 2007-04-11
This makes no sense to me as, up until recently, either Barnes and Noble or Borders by me have had the releases of OMG on schedule as far as I know. According to ANN they're WAAYYY behind on the releases though. I mean volume 26 is supposed to be out Wednesday according to this. My question is is ANN wrong or are my stores simply getting them very late? Anyone else had this problem?

Number of reasons. The most likely is that whomever is in Corporate makes the choice of whether or not a location will get X title to put onto the shelves. Another reason is sales history. If the title has a constant sales history (i.e. people buying the manga instead of reading them in the store) then the store gets to stock the title. Otherwise, the company won't spend the money to ship a title that will remain stagnent on the shelves.
So if your store isn't stocking the title, blame your fellow Otaku for part of the reason.

I have to agree. If people are not buying the titles, then they are not going to put them on the shelves. Unfortuneately I found this to be true though the my local Borders for Guru Guru Pon Chan. I must have been the only person buying it. *sigh* However, I'm sure if you asked that maybe the can order it from another one of their stores and you can get it that way.

Dark Horse is also notorious for it's late releases of most of it's manga. It's rather annoying, and I keep thinking that I've missed a title. It's something people who get multiple DH manga have noticed and wondered about, especially since they never seem to update their release dates to the correct ones after they are originally announced. Though once they release the first volume the rest are usually out with the original time between volumes intact, just from the actual release of that first volume instead of it's expected release.
While I don't get OMG anymore, I believe OMG 25 came out in late February, at least that's when I saw it at the local comic shop who normally gets Dark Horse manga as soon as they're available (Barnes and Nobles and Amazon both agree with the February release date), based on their pattern OMG 26 should come out in June.
I'd expect the bookstores to get the volumes late even if it is released on the posted release date. Bookstores don't appear to be the primary focus when it comes to sales, comic shops are. Any title from DH I've seen bookstores carry have always come 2-4 weeks after I've seen it come out in the local comic shop. Considering most of their output is comics, this makes sense. Which is the exact opposite of Del Rey. Bookstores, understandably, get Del Rey books in 2-4 weeks before comic shops..
*Edit: Spelling and additional thought.

Sorry guys, it has nothing to do with what the stores are ordering. Dark Horse is just fecking slow. They've been behind on their OMG schedule ever since the series switched to unflipped. (They even canceled OMG! Colors without telling anyone ... but no one seemed to care anyway ... )
I just never trust the release dates for this series, because the publisher is always late on it. Even my reviewer's copy of Vol. 25 didn't arrive until late February, which tells you how long it's taking them to get it off the press. I would expect Vol. 26 around summer.

One volume every 3-4 months. That sounds like Del Ray too.

I pre-ordered all the upcoming volumes of OMG! from Right Stuf a few months ago, and I just got my copies of OMG! vol. 4 and 25 on 3/22. I got my Vol. 24 back in early February, though, so there was a bigger stretch there, but yeah....I wouldn't bet money on Vol. 26 being out on Wednesday.

Volume twenty-six has a release date of April eleventh, so I'd estimate late April to early May.

Actually it's not quite the case as Dark Horse is putting out unflipped editions of the earlier Oh My Goddess! volumes up to twenty (currently they're up to volume four with five soon to come out). So it's a schedule of one volume per month, but one volume of new material every four months. They also feel behind last year and played catch up recently, with them releasing a volume a month at a time for a short while.

True the popularity does effect the NUMBER of a product a store will sell they still, in most cases, get at least 1 of the new product if they already sell that product line. That's how it was for us at Sam Goody/Suncoast. We might get less of a manga or anime but if we have that series we at least got 1 copy if nothing else of the new release. At B&N and Borders lately they've had NONE coming in. Until now all at once. Plus, OMG is not some under ground title no one has ever heard of. This is one of the longest running mangas ever. It sure as hell wouldn't have carried on this long if it wasn't making the sales.

Thank you for making my day This is what I get for being hopeful heh. Anyone got a suggestion of where to order from to get it faster then waiting for it to show up in B&N? Anyone gotten it from TRSI close to the release date? Any other online stores?

I'm thankful for not having starting buying AMG manga before they were making the standard "Tokyopop" size manga. However, the wait for a NEW volume is just as long - 3-4 months. As for book 4 and 25, I'm just gonna wait and buy them at Anime Central.

3 months is a pretty standard wait between volumes. Delays aside, if DH is putting out a new volume every 3-4 months, it's not much longer then any other publisher. Tokyopop, Viz, Del Rey, Go! Comi, and others have a 3 month wait between releases even on series that have concluded in Japan. 3 months may be long but it's not really longer then other publishers.

As far as I know Dark Horse never stick to the released date for A!MG. It's always delayed so I'm not going to bother looking at their release dates. They should try to follow Del-Rey and stick with the release date. This is supposed to be the longest running manga in the US.

Not only that, it's also the most consistently delayed manga in the US!

And don't forget, for those of us who started buying it in the first edition, those ran about $15-$18 each (for 19 volumes).
