Heh, this is a cynical board. It's two compilation films in a gap with hardly any new animated material. I personally don't feel that this is anything close to 'milking'.

I wonder if they will change the ending, so it's like the one in the manga

If the audience wants more Attack on Titan then so be it. I'll be patiently waiting for season 2 or any actual new content.

I don't understand why people immediately think this is simply just a cash grab and nothing more, like, say, something to keep the hype train going. (Blue Exorcist was pretty big as well, albeit nowhere near where AoT is, and it's popularity cratered before the movie came out 1 1/2 years after the TV season ended; just because AoT is even bigger doesn't mean it can't suffer the same fate) Also, considering how troubled the production got at times, giving the studio more time to work on season 2 makes sense unless people are actually okay with more scenes like the infamous staircase scene from episode 8 (at least I think that was episode 8).
But yeah, as for the compilation films themselves... I actually want to check them out, which is more than I can say for most compilation films since there's no way the pace would be as ungodly slow as the TV series. |

From what I learned on Reddit there will be a new OAV (well OAD specifically) bundled along with the release of the 13th manga volume. It's focused on Jean, Sasha and Connie, so it's probably going to be comedy. |

That is kind of what a cash-grab is. Utilizing the popularity of the show to put out a couple of movies that don't require much new animation is cheap, keeps the show on peoples' minds and serves to make them additional money while they prepare for season 2. It is pretty much the essence of low-risk, high-reward. To be clear, I am entirely in favor of these movies to fix very minor issues in the show and because I love Attack On Titan, but it really isn't much more than a cash-grab.

If you start thinking of AoT in terms of how much of it is a 'cash grab' you'll probably have to deal with more than just compilation movies heh. I'm not thinking of these compilation movies much because I'm not its audience, but if I were in Japan I'd watch it, sure. Personally, I enjoy AoT and I'd love to see the scenes in theatrical quality animation. You only feel that it's a cash grab if you feel that it's not going to be worth your money. |

I don't think that's really the case. I think its a cash grab, but I will still gladly spend money on them. I actually applaud them for doing this because it makes business sense and I happen to really like compilation movies. I own compilation movies for a lot of shows and enjoy most of them quite a lot. In some cases more than the shows themselves. The animation improvements, pacing corrections and all sorts of other minor adjustments tend to help more than hurt. In the case of these movies, I would be surprised if they didn't get a US release as well, so you probably don't need to worry about missing out on them. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a Collector's Edition Box Set. |

Naa, it's definitely a cash grab, as are all the spin-off manga and the light novel. It's normal for a popular manga to get anime and/or live action adaptations and have some merchandise and toys. Maybe a video game. Anything beyond that--spin-off manga, compilation movies, filler movies--all feel like cash grabs to me. When your reworking old material or making up new material for a property that should be written and drawn by one guy, it feels cash grabby.
Actually, I'm not sure about how all those manga popped up. AFAIK, uber popular Shonen Jump titles, like DBZ and One Piece, don't have "filler" manga or LNs (Naruto did, though, and I know FMA had some LNs, so *shrug*). Did the anime's ending really differ all that much from the manga? I can't remember any big conflicts between the two. |

I guess I won't argue about someone else's definition of 'cash grab', but having been in fandoms where a franchise is stretched to the point when I can no longer follow the story without a fan wiki by my side (Kingdom Hearts) I'm still happy with the level of er, 'cash grabbyness' for Attack on Titan. The spin-offs correspond with the main series very well and we're not getting ridiculous filler seasons that potentially hijack the entire storyline. Personally, I'm less anxious about the cash grabbing and franchise milking as I am about the direction of the manga itself. Those following the manga will know that it has taken quite a dark turn recently. I really hope that these new developments are well thought out and not an indication of Isayama caving in to editorial pressure to lengthen or complicate the series. |

12/6/2013 - 28m, includes volume 12 (2.2m first print) 1/22/2014 - 29 m 1/29/2014 - 30m 3/10/2014 - 31m 3/16/2014 - ??m, volume 13 gets 2.75m first print 04/5/2014 - 36m 36m / 13 volumes = 2.77m average per volume Jesus, getting over 5 million copies sold by first half 2014 is child's play for Titans. Last time I tried counting its sales, it was already at 3.7m. About 1-2 months ago. With volume 13 and maybe 700k more since it's been staying in the top 100 week after week, meaning 10k copies per volume, it will probably get over 6 million, maybe even 7 million for first half of 2014. With volume 14... 8 million to 9 million for 2014, and that's my safe bet because I wouldn't be surprised if it managed again to sell over 10 million copies in a year. |

They are avoiding making more of the series. This is the problem with their structure. People want more. Now, while its popular. Everyone that liked it, demands it.
What do we get? A Live action movie, manga spin offs, a 3ds game and 2 compilation anime movies. The interest is waning. Showing once again how the Japanese have no clue how to monetize their own products. While I certainly don't mind waiting there needs to be more animated while it's a hot title. Not cold then reheated. Not 2 years in the future when people happen back upon this. They refuse to strike while the iron is hot. Its infuriating. They seem to be professionals at it. Finally find something popular then ignore/stop/incomplete a future series like this is what its always been about. A fundamental flaw with this entire industry. |

Were you aware that the manga is published on a monthly basis? The manga storyline has only very recently reached enough material for a 1-cour show, but not yet enough for a full 26-episode season. The spin-offs are pretty good too, so I don't know why people keep complaining about them. Maybe they haven't read them? |
