Hmm interesting. Another series from Shonen Jump and I'm a fan of wrestling so definitely looking forward.

Kinda sounds like Haikyu with the short protagonist aspect.

Does Kawada have a full name or is it a pseudonym?

This sounds interesting. If they show a Tosa, then I'm hooked (it's a Japanese Mastiff-type dog that was bred for dog sumo wrestling which is still is legal in some of Japan but is done specifically in Kochi, Kochi) though I don't condone dog fighting.

This reminds me of Hakkeyoi, an old manga that seems to have a similar premise but didn't seem to have lasted very long. With that being said, I'm not too sure if this manga could actually last for a long time. But hey, maybe the artist can present something unique to make it successful.

On another note, is Kawada really the full name of the artist? What works did he create in the past?

"Kawada" is the only name listed in the image and from what I can dig around, he has no other works unless it is a pen name.

I'm pretty sure it's Tokyo Wonder Boys.

Actually, the title is Hinomaru Zumō.
Hinomaru Zumō by Kawada was carried in Jump Next! and Weekly Shōnen Jump before as a one-off manga in 2013.
Kawada got an honourable mention with 'Love and Justice' in the first half of 2009 Tezuka Award contest.
As to why 's' becomes 'z', study rendaku.

He aims to become the greatest in the world, hinoshita-kaisan.

The term '日下開山' can be read also as 'hinoshitakaizan'.
Daijisen says,
Quote:
ひのしたかいざん 【日の下開山】 《「ひのしたかいさん」とも》 相撲・武芸などで、天下無双の強豪のこと。 普通は横綱の異称。

Jump chose the reading 'hinoshitakaizan'.

Thanks for that clarification. I looked up the series further. For those interested, here's the Japanese title: 火ノ丸相撲

Based on my first impressions of the character design (via Google Images), this doesn't look like your typical sumo manga. So maybe this manga might be worth checking out.
