I've been hearing some rumors about a new season in 2008 which will be the sequel to The Second Raid. Is there any confirmation on the new season? The ending of FMP TSR left quite a few things open to happen -_-

FMP is based on books that pretty much seem like they will go on forever. Right now there are enough books to make about one extra season, but there's no rush and I think it might be awhile before the FMP series is continued.

The good thing (if you like FMP) is that I'm fairly certain it will be continued. FMP continued on from Gonzo doing the first season to Kyoto Animation doing the "second" and Fumoffu....so the creator of FMP doesn't mind if his series is done by different studios, as long as its done. That will probably ensure the rest of the books eventually get animated.

Personally I don't care. I don't like FMP, but I bought 2nd Raid cause I like Kyoto Animation and think they animate well. After spoiler[ the twin kungfu girls died, I was pissed. I only bought FMP to see them fight, but they died like clowns.] [EDIT: Spoiler tags added.]

What? spoiler[They die? Shimatta. And I really liked them too.] *groans* You should have put that in spoiler tags. I'm quite pissed off now.

Anyway, based on what I've heard about the ending of TSR, I'd love for there to be more. TSR has already topped Fumoffu as my favorite of the three FMP series, based upon the first two DVDs. [Spoiler tags added ~Zalis]

Ah, you've only seen the first two DVDs, no wonder. I did consider marking it as a spoiler or not mentioning it, but I figured its very very old news by now. Plus, there are probably people like me who bought the series only because of them, and were impressed by their animation and fighting powers. And therefore are super angry that they died so foolishly, after the beginning of the series seemed to hype up their awesomeness.

I'm probably even more angry than you are. I feel like I wasted my money on FMP:2nd Raid cause spoiler[those twins died]. I've never seen the first season or Fumoffu, and I don't plan to either. I only wanted to see spoiler[the kungfu twins. I wish someone had warned me before I started buying the series. They didn't even die respectably. They died fighting, but looking like weak little baby idiots, which pissed me off even more.]

Bah, this series is still relatively new. The 4th DVD was just released this month, as a matter of fact. Besides, you can never count on everyone having seen an entire series, no matter it's age. Anyway, I'll get over it. TSR has been great overall regardless.

I always get the Japanese DVDs or Fansubs. Thus get to see most anime before anyone I know.

Anyway, I think this one was a bit too short. Would have been better to extended just a few episodes, just to give the girls a worthy end. However, I'm a fan of the FMP, not just the studio. I would like to see what happens next.

I'm not much of a manga reader, so I usually don't get it. Unless, a friend recommends it.

Even though the last book in the novel series is set to come out later this year.

Anyway, where are you hearing these rumors? I can't imagine Kyoto Animation getting around to more FMP! anytime soon the key to success through other ventures (pun not intentional). I'd really like them to, as I really didn't care that much for the first series done by Gonzo, really enjoyed The Second Raid, and absolutely loved Fumoffu. Of course, I do wonder if any future seasons/series of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya would be in the works (under a new title, I'd presume).

I hope they come up with another Full Metal Panic series. I loved the original FMP and thought FMP:FUMOFFU was one of the funniest anime I ever saw. But FMP:TSR was a major disappointment for me.

For one thing, the whole tone of the series was depressing. Souske, Kaname, Tessa and the bunch were so dismal and full of angst that TRS wasn't very fun to watch. The only humor, if you could call it that, was supplied by Gates when he would fly off on one of his tirades or abuse his poor lackey.

spoiler[I also liked the twins and was really mad that they were killed off. They were the best part of the show. I was hoping they would find some sort of redemption and help out at the end but that hope died rather quickly.] [Spoiler Tags added ~Zalis]

You should implement a spoiler tag next time, rather than just throwing it out there. No how old the series may be, it still boils down to simply being anime. Its like me revealing the ending of The Twelve Kingdoms considering its "old", well older than Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, even though its mostly rated masterpiece amongst many fans. As for "warning" you, what did you want us to write, "don't buy Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid since the spoiler[kung fu twins die!]"? Your post is rife with comments like "I say, you agree!", yet your only real concern seems to be the kung fu twins. Well, I personally seen the series and couldn't care the least, though after reading your posts today you leave me quite hesitant when discussing series I haven't seen as of yet.

[edit: Added the tag - Keonyn]

Is it just me, or does someone ask about another season of FMP every other week or so around here?

Fumoffu and TSR were done by Kyoto Animation, a studio known for pretty much never taking on more than one main series at a time. Their one-show-at-a-time schedule's currently tied up for probably the next year or so, seeing as they've got the CLANNAD TV series coming up, which is likely to take up 24-26 episodes. If another company acquires the rights to FMP instead, then you can bet there will be a fair bit of fan criticism over perceived changes to the series as a result of a new studio working on it. While there's plenty of source material from the novel series remaining to adapt into another season or two of FMP, the creator has to choose between waiting for Kyoto Animation to work on it again (seeing as he prefers their work over GONZO's first season), or risk another studio taking over the franchise.

But yeah, don't trust rumors until you see an official announcement. Too many such topics being made. Anime hyper

Hellkorn, I guess the FMP novels are actually ending then, thanks for letting us know. As you probably already know, I'm not really a FMP fan and I don't keep up with what goes on for it. If the novels do end soon, there will still be enough material for one or two seasons more, so FMP fans don't have to worry.

XIII, yeah the kung fu twins were the only thing I cared about. I bought the show just to see them because their fighting animations in the Trailers were of the highest quality. I don't even know who the main characters are and I never saw any FMP besides TSR, and don't plan to either.

Normally I try to be a little careful regarding spoilers but I'm definitely not religious about it like some people are. In extreme cases such as this one, I feel it is okay to spoil certain things but I guess some forum mods don't agree, so that's fine (I'll try not to do it again). You can just watch the trailer for the 4th DVD or look at the box art and know the exact same thing, so how big of a spoiler can it be? That's what I mean when I say "old news". spoiler[In case you didn't figure it out, the twins, or at least one twin, dies pathetically in the 3rd DVD already, not the 4th DVD. At which point it's obvious the next one is soon to follow, which is indeed what happens, and they both die in the most pathetic and sad, weak way. Very disappointing for characters who seemed to be the best fighters in the entire bad guys' group, at least regarding the quality of their fighting animations.]

This is one of the biggest rumors floating around for a while. TSR still left one big plot hole open, Tessa's Brother Leonardo. And if I'm correct in the books spoiler[Leo beat the crap out of Souske and the Arbalest, while Chidori gave herself up for Leo to take her away in order to save Souske's life]

so yeah, they have material to work off of.

Yeah to me that's not even a spoiler. I haven't even read a single FMP book, and have only seen the TSR anime series, but it's obvious that at some point what you have blacked out there in the spoilers would likely happen. Duh. Why is Leo there if he's not gonna ever do anything?

I think people carry the spoiler-paranoia too far sometimes. If I wanted to, I could be a bastard and throw up a nasty webpage filled with spoilers for 1000 shows that would show up on everyone's Google search, with the spoiler clearly written in the title so you can't help but read it as soon as you do your search. There's no law against spoiling things, and although there can be forum rules, if someone really wants to spoil things for you, they can. So avoiding spoilers is simply a matter of goodwill, I think the religious aversion to it is foolish. But anyway, those are the forum rules here I guess, so I'll try to stick to them better.

There's no such thing as "too old for spoiler tags" when it comes to anime -- they had a thread for Sailor Moon episode-by-episode discussion over at AnimeonDVD, and people were still using spoiler tags for events that aired 15 years ago. There may not be a law against it, but it's just a matter of common courtesy. If new users come on here and see a minefield of untagged spoilers, they're not going to want to read posts or contribute here any more. We don't want to have that happen, so we ask that users make use of the spoiler tags for major plot events, significant character deaths, or anything else where accidental foreknowledge would worsen a viewer's enjoyment of that particular series. I don't see what's so hard about that.

Anyway, I'm locking this because it's yet another rumor/speculation thread about more FMP, and nobody on these forums is likely to know. If you all want to discuss why FMP is so awesome and deserves to have more animated, there's always this thread.
