For those unaware, Voicebox Productions, Inc. is the voice recording studio who does work for Ed Edd n' Eddy, Johny Test, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The company is based in Vancouver, the same location as The Ocean Group. Which brings me to the topic at hand, Voicebox needs to do more anime dubbing. The only things they dubbed were the Transformers unicorn trilogy, Zoids, and Cardcaptors. But they need to do more. Since Ocean really doesn't do much of any Anime work these days, Voicebox needs to pick up the slack. Companies like Viz, Aniplex, NIS, and even Sentai Filmworks to an extent could use them, and besides, its about time Vancouver makes a comeback in the Anime dubbing buisness.
Here's their demo reel for those interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGpfBLcwLAM |

Contrary to the length of your opener, *why* do you think they should get more work? Are there any specific VAs in their stable that you enjoy? What do you particularly like about their anime dubs? I mean, I love the people of Ocean-Vancouver as much as the next guy (give me a torch for Blue Water Studios, though), but this is about your reasons, not mine.

One of the reasons I enjoy the Vancouver talent pool is because a many voice actors there have such a very broad vocal range. Often times playing 2-7 characters at once, and having them each sound distinct. The reason I would rather have Voicebox over Ocean is because Ocean's dubs typically have what I like to call a "radio effect" in the audio. In which characters have a distincly loud echo in their voices. Shakugan no Shana and InyuYasha are examples. If you've seen any of Voicebox's work such as MLP or Ed Edd n' Eddy, this really isn't an issue. Plus, Voicebox has the advantage of hiring a select few LA voice actors in their work, so it's more likely to see, say, Yuri Lowenthal voicing together with Sam Vincent in a Voicebox dub than with Ocean. |

Yeah, I've always notice that "radio effect" in their dubs, too. Love the voices and acting, but could never understand what was up with their recording equipment. Not sure if it's some quirky production technique they came up with or if they just never realized the oddity of their sound mixing.

Yeah, I don't hate Ocean dubs, I like InyuYasha and Shana's dubs, but I never understood why distributors keep using them, when they have a much better alternative that actually gets more work. |
