And here I was thinking that Spongiforma squarepantsii was the weirdest media-related thing in science.

You forgot to mention Macross Chasma and Argo Chasma on Pluto's moon Charon, which were named after the SDF1 Macross (Space Fortress Macross/Robotech) and Argo/Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers). Both ships visited Pluto in their respective series.

Maybe we can get them to name a crater after Setsuna Meioh (Sailor Pluto)?
