Sorry thats all I could think about when I read this.
So how many people here belong to cults or know of ones that often resemble ones found in anime and/or hentai? Particularly ones that take 400 police officers to raid!! Come on don't be shy, it's the internet. |

Ack! Just when I'd finished deluding myself into thinking I hadn't seen that terrible hentai. Although some parts of it weren't too bad...and the animation was nice

Unlike Bible Black, nothing sexual about the religious cult was mentioned in the news. It is just another typical Japanese religious cult: weird ceremonies + ultra-expensive "blessed" ordinary items + cutoff communication + absolute obedience.
A novel by Fuyuki Shindō (新堂 冬樹) titled Charisma, along with its manga adaptation, has a good description on a fictional Japanese religious cult. |

That's a freakishly large cult. These people need hobbies. Real ones. |

That's not the number of cult members, that's the number of unrelated people killed/injured by a few of the cult members actions under order of Shoko Asahara; they released toxic sarin gas on the Tokyo subway system during commute hours. |

People just want to feel divinely special and unique, even if there are 10,000 others just like them, and they have that right. As I see it, all humans, all individuals have a natural right to believe and express what they want, and as long as they aren't hurting those whom I love, then I don't really have any concern over what they're doing. Now, I might poke fun if something seems ridiculous to my world view, but that is my right, as it is yours. So you know what? Go ahead and join a "cult" if you want, if it makes you feel special, and if it MAKES SENSE to you (I stress that as the important part), then be my guest, just leave me out of it.

In fact, the cult itself was consisted far more members than the number of people it hurt.
@Solrhn: Anything you want to say related to anime/manga? This is not a cult forum. |

Outwiki'd! I was just having a look at the same article, but didn't read fast enough! I couldn't remember the numbers, shamefully I wasn't really as aware of global news as I perhaps should have been when it occurred; I've since only read Murakami's Underground on the topic, and that was a few years ago.

Ah, after a re-read I see your right. I guess I just assumed she was tied up and beaten for sexual pleasure/punishment(breaking some sort of rules and it just went to far). And the fact that it was an almost all-girl cult didn't help steer my mind in the right direction either. Which kinda brings me to a question. This type of cult enforcement type plot is common in hentai, but not so much in normal anime. Why is so much of this type of plot automatically going to lean torward overt sexual overtones? Or are there anime, just not any I happen to be thinking of? Would anime about Yakuza essentially fit the bill of this type of plot? I am just wondering why such plots are automatically preferred to be ones of a pornographic nature? Can there not be an interesting anime about crazy cultism aimed at adults that doesn't include gang rape? I think that that might turn out to be pretty good actually, if pulled off the right way. [Semi-OT] Judging purely on the types of hentai that come out of Japan, one could say that S&M is fairly mainstream(boringly common) as a practice in that country. Would this be a fair statement? |

No you can't. That would cause more troubles than the recent Higurashi, School Days, and Kodomo no Jikan issues. |
