Vic Mignogna is playing Sabo?? Strange, since he already has a lot of roles in this series.

So which is the problem with movies based on long running shonen series again?

McNuggets seems like an odd choice for Sabo to me. I can't imagine his voice at all in the role like the other actors we were guessing. Not knocking his performance sight-unseen (sound-unheard?), just that I didn't expect him at all. Now that the cat's out of the bag, hopefully they'll finally give us a preview of him.
Now tell me about Koala, damn it!

He voice three roles, all of which were very minor in the grand scheme of things (two of them were from the Rainbow Mist filler arc). Other than that, he's voiced Skypiean A or B way back in the Skypiea arc and that's it. He's never voiced anyone this big in the dub before. Speaking of which, that marks another, "badass honorary-relative to the main protagonist", on his resume.

not quite. he also did Col Nozumi from the arlong arc, and if i dont know if this counts, also did the Opening them in english back when funi was doing opening and closing themes in english so he definitely had a part in in OP. though Hisoka's VA???? how did they pull that off??? i definitely know silverstein is not a long time funi VA let alone and ADV Films veteran like mignona. guess they decide to use an outsource VA for the movie which had to cost them a pretty penny to do so cause if the author decides to do a hiro and make this movie a semi cannon film like what he did for the fairy tail movie, it would be really hard to get the same VA in the film to reprise his role in the event the character decides to make and appearance in the tv series.

The One Piece movies usually cast non-texas based actors for the top roles.
Like Shiki from Strong World was voiced by Scott Mcneil.

...I said he only did three roles up until now and that aside from the one you mentioned, the other two from the filler arc I referred to was just me trying to make a case as to how minor Vic Mignogna's roles in One Piece up until now.

He definitely sung the first and 3rd opening theme as well as the 11th ending theme. But again, his singing parts are besides the point. This is about how Vic Mignogna has yet to voice a character serving as big of a role in the grand scheme in the story up until now.

...Or Joel McDonald, the ADR director for One Piece: Film Gold may have met him at a con at some point and they got acquainted and he eventually asked if Keith Silverstein wanted to play a part. That can happen. That's how J. Michael Tatum got to voice a character during the tail-end of the Diamond and Pearl seasons of Pokemon. He met with the ADR Director of Pokemon at NYCC at the time. This was around the time Funimation did a premiere screening of the Black Butler dub which Tatum voices the main character.
That can happen. Or maybe Joel McDonald knows of a voice actor who knows Keith Silverstein and said actor suggested him. That's how Bryce Papenbrook got in the Attack on Titan dub as Eren. Patrick Seitz who was also in the dub (and also voices Franky in One Piece) knows and has worked with Mike McFarland for years. He suggested that Bryce audition for the lead role and the rest is history.
So there are a few possibilities, but I highly doubt it had to do with paying a lot of money. Just because these voice actors can be prolific doesn't mean they get Hollywood celebrity-level income.

They're essentially really long filler episodes.

These latest OP movies tho (Strong World, Z and now Gold) all feel like legit blockbuster movies tho, rather than run-of-the-mill filler episodes like the old annual movies did.

There's nothing blockbuster about them. They exist and then everyone forgets they happened. It's not like say, Char'a Counterattack where it's the final chapter of the story.

But do they have to be forgotten just because they are filler episodes? There´s anything wrong with that? Do they have to be canon to be seen? Men, that makes me think that there´s something wrong with being a fan of a long running series.

Good to know your opinion, but the reason the latest 3 movies are such hits IS because they evoke a more blockbuster feel than the older movies. Even if they don't pertain to the actual canon story, which doesn't need to happen to give a movie a blockbuster feel. Strong World, Z and now Gold are all really good movies and have above average production values - therefore they have a blockbuster feel. That's all it is. It's not like the older movies which were produced yearly with almost no hype put into it, the One Piece "Film Trilogy" evoke a real sense of cinematic flair, which most movies based on tv anime lack.

That's just an overblown Tv show episode, which makes it even more jarring.
To use an example, the first Star Trek film. A massive budget, epic shots, but essentially an episode of the show on steroids. An overblown TV show. Wrath of Khan, which is considered a classic? Smaller budget, but very real stakes, a personal drama which draws upon older events and irrevocably changes things for the characters. That's a blockbuster.

No, that just *theoretically* makes it have a better quality story, but that doesn't mean it is a blockbuster. There's many oscar-winning movies that I wouldn't call "blockbusters", for example. Quite the contrary in fact, because most blockbusters aren't known as so because of their "story". Like the Marvel movies, Transformer movies, etc etc.... they're not known for story, but rather special effects, action and production values. A popcorn flick, if you will. These lastest One Piece movies fit that bill. Whether or not you like them is a different story, but they definitely have been tailor-made to be like a summer blockbuster, which is what differentiates them from the earlier films. It's also why FUNi won't even bother with the older films.
