I've heard complaints about the video transfer on Wings of H. I haven't seen it, but the worst video transfer I've ever seen on anything was Spring and Chaos from Tokyopop. Egad! The image blurred and digitalized sometimes. Bad transfer.

Trust me, the transfer on Wings of Honneamise is horrible. It's the only time I've returned a DVD.

Then you haven't seen manga's version of Black Magic M-66 or ADV's versions of Evangelion. j |

Oh I've seen in it (on a VHS from my University's library). It was bad but not horrible considering that it wasn't a remastered version or anything. |

I've seen both of those. Those are NOWHERE near as bad as Honneamise. It's the only time I actually had to turn off a DVD because it was unwatchable. Completely unwatchable. |

I'll give you M-66 is fairly bad. And ADV's Evangelion had a few issues with the "Gainax Twitch" and hard overlays on the first disk, but...c'mon.
There's no way you could honestly say that either one even approaches the level of bad that the WoH transfer achieved. |

What's so bad about WoH? The transfer, that is.

Egad. So has Manga rereleased a proper version?

Nope. Last I heard, Manga still won't acknowledge what a crappy job they did on it. |

Thanks for the link, Cassandra. Very informative. I already knew how interlacing worked, but I didn't know anything that specific. Now I know
So, I withdraw my earlier statement. It isn't a godawful horrible video transfer. It's a godawful horrible mastering job. Syker Seven |

In regard to Wings of H correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the poor image transfer the reason GAINAX gained fame with other series? e.g. the infamous "Eva jiggle"

You can have a lot of fun with the Eva jiggle. Try showing it to someone who doesn't know of it. If your victim isn't too bright, they might be there for hours trying to figure out what's going on. Trust me. It's fun. Back to topic, I think I might have had a worse experience with Wings of H. I watched a copied bootleg. That's right, the copy of a copy. The resulting visual assault burned my corneas and half of my retinas, then proceeded to gouge my poor eyeballs with a blunted spoon. Or at least that's what it felt like. |

So I guess this means that I shouldn't hold my breath that releases of Giant Robo and Gunbuster (whenever Manga get off their lazy butts to release them) would be of a decent quality. Was there ever a Manga release that did not suck, and, if so, what ever happend to the crew that produced that release? |
