can someone tell me in what order do the movies go and how much movies are there?
have they all been dubbed in english yet??? |

...trust, betrayal, the movie, reflections...and as far as I know, they have all been released in the U.S. so that would most likely mean that they have been dubbed.

unless meiji kenkaku romantan is something other than the OAVs and the movie, then they have all been dubbed... |

Upon further inspection, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan was Samurai X: The Motion Picture, the japanese version.

Actually, Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan is the full title to the Rurouni Kenshin TV series. The movie's Japanese title is Rurouni Kenshin: Ishin Shishi no Requiem.

Technically, the first OVA, "Tsuioku-hen" (which is in four parts, known as "Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal" in the US, produced by ADV) takes place *chronologically* BEFORE the TV series begins.
However, for the intended emotional impact, it's *imperative* that you watch it after completing *at least* the Kyoto arc of the TV series. You *could* watch it before then and it would make sense, but you just would NOT get the same level of emotion otherwise. The one movie ("Ishin shishi e no REQUIEM," released as "Samurai X: The Movie" in the US by ADV") doesn't really take place during any certain continuity (just like the vast majority of other anime movies based on TV series), but it makes most sense during / after the Kyoto arc. The newest OVA, which the author had absolutely nothing to do with (and has stated their vast disappointment and frustration with) is entitled "Seisou-hen" ("Samurai X: Reflections" by ADV in the US). It's... well... yeah. It takes place after EVERYTHING, but remember that it wasn't written by the original author, and totally contradicts both the story of the manga and the FEELING of the manga / show. |

Yeah, if I was Nobuhiro Watsuki, I'd disown Seishouhen, too.
 Nothing like having the central theme, certain noteworthy plot points, and even base traits of the main characters pissed all over and then being labeled as "canon."
Granted, as a stand-alone story, I thought it was pretty good. Something of a...big budget, animated fanfiction that you just have to make note to keep separate from the REAL story. 
Strangest thing about Seishouhen, though...is that the same production team that did it also did Tsuioku-Hen...and did such an excellent job on that (easily one of my all-time favourite anime OVAs). Ah well... |

I didn't think it was THAT bad; I just wish they had animated the last arc so that the OVA made sense. I mean, spoiler[They never explained why Sanosuke was in China.] The very last filler arc was horrid. It was so hard to watch all the way through. I did enjoy the very last episode.
 Is the Samurai X movie and the Rurouni Kenshin movie different besides the animation? Or is one just better to watch?

Samurai-X is Rurouni Kenshin, Rurouni Kenshin is Samurai-X. They're the exact same movie, it's just that Samurai-X has a different (godawful, wretched, horrid, and woefully inaccurate) title to appeal to the "hip American audience."

Glad I didn't buy them. I'll buy RK's one soon. I was looking at the back of them and couldn't tell the difference, so I bought a Chobits dvd instead... |

"Samurai X" is just the title that ADV uses for their Kenshin properties (which is both OVAs and the movie). It's ALL under the broad Rurouni Kenshin spectrum... just... ADV owns the OVAs and movie, while Media Blasters did the TV series.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you. I meant that I'm glad I didn't buy both of them. I'm probably going to get the Rurouni Kenshin one. |
