Hello Guys

I am a big anime fan, and recently I wanted to start my own YouTube Channel for anime. I have seen people upload parts of different anime shows in a single video, are there guidelines to how much of an anime I can used? I really don't want to have any copyright issues. If you know anything about this topic please let me know!

Thank You

Legally, "fair use" is an excuse, not a defense, in the US. So anything can still get you in trouble for copyright infringement. I don't know much about Japanese law, but I've heard that fair use doesn't exist over there. So anything will still get you in trouble for copyright infringement.

It's impossible to answer this question.

Some anime shows like Bartender, and now even Monster, exist in their complete form on YouTube, presumably because the rights-holders don't care enough to issue a take-down notice. For other shows, it's nearly impossible to find any material there other than, official previews and, sometimes, OP/ED songs. Even those are often censored or blocked by the music organizations. I've seen series where the complete story content appears on YouTube, but the audio was removed from the songs in response to a request from companies like Sony.

As Dessa says, "fair use" can be raised as a defense in copyright litigation (I wouldn't call it an "excuse" since it's clearly defined in 17 USC 107). That provision defines the limits on fair use under US law, which as far as I can tell are the rules Google operates under as an American company.

My advice is to stay away from this whole mess.

It's a matter of luck... Youtube has strict rules about this.
I also ones tried to start my own YouTube Channel but every time I posted a new video, it was deleted because of copyright, it was only the due of music (not other materials). And then I started a new channel, in which I help students with their homework assignments and essays and now I get money from it. So if you really want to start something on Youtube, come up with something new and unique! If it's anime, all right, think about it, read about it and then you'll figure out how to make your perfect channel. So, don't give up Wink and don't waste your time on copyrighting.
