While on one hand it is nice to see some familiar faces from Negima again, it's at this point in the series where i got wary of how much it was becoming a "Negima 2.0" manga. The more characters from Negima that make their appearance, the less important the supposed main cast of this series seems to be. Oh well; personal preferences being what they are, i admit i'd be happy seeing Chao Lingshen make an appearance (i'm pretty far behind the current chapters)

Taking into account that this was around the time where the actual JP title of UQ Holder changed to Negima 2 more or less, i'm not sure you'll be happy going forward. lol
It went from "UQ Holder" to "UQ Holder!: Magister Negi Magi! 2"

it's also noteworthy that Akamatsu felt forced to end Negima earlier than he wanted to,so he's just using UQ Holder to tell the rest of the Negima's story he couldn't before.

It's pretty clear that the original plan for Negima's school-festival arc included a Zazie loop that would have set up the backstory to the mage-of-the-beginning &c. Cutting this for time meant the narrative became fundamentally unsalvageable; there was no place in the magical-world arc to dump the information early, so it had to come as a deus-ex-machina at the end.
Not exactly the only badly-structured thread, either. The problems with Negima are not just that it was cut off early; the story had huge structural problems virtually from the beginning. Too big, too many moving parts, too many plates in the air. Cutting to a timeskip and telling the missing bits in flashback is a pretty sensible way to write yourself out of that sort of tangle. The actual cut might have happened because of copyright issues, but I don't think Akamatsu was that reluctant to pull the trigger.
