Some good prices but make sure to check rightstuf first as they have some stuff cheaper.

Thanks for the tip. I got Tokyo Godfathers, and FFVII. It is no sercret I am a Kon fan and TG is the only one I haven't seen. And everyone has been bringing up FFVII in discussions, so I thought I would try it out while I could get it for a good price. (with free shipping I saved $3 each compared to the next best price)
But that brings me to a question. I haven't played any of the new Final Fantasy games. The last one I played and completed was FFIV(also played I-III) on it's original console. So that was a long time ago, and well... My question is do I need to be very familar with the new stories to watch the movie, or is it set up so that a new gen FF newb like me can still watch it and not be lost? |

I have long put off Tokyo Godfathers and Memories as well since a good 99% of my anime is from Rightstuf and Columbia/Sony titles are never on sale except for pre-orders. Although these titles are only 35% off, it is a bit of a better deal than TRSI's everyday price.
TRSI doesn't even keep these titles in stock, so the current 20% off everything on hand deal doesn't apply to most/all Colombia titles. They do have a good amount of BVUSA titles, so I ended up buying a bunch of DVDs during this sale that I previous swore not to buy due to BVUSA's pricing. The only FF that Advent Children refers to is the VII game. FF VII has little to do with previous installments besides Chocobos and Airships. I think you'll have a better connection with the characters if you play the game since they are not introduced very well in Advent Children. There is a recap of the game (which I found useful) on the bonus DVD which will help bring you up to speed. |

Gotcha, so I will be lost, but I can look at pretty eye candy. That's what I needed to know. Because to be honest with myself, I am not going to play FFVII anytime soon. If ever. |

Some people regard FFVII as total eye candy anyway

This is just my opinion but I don't think Advent Children is only loosely tied to FF7. The characters are all the same, the plot does continue off, and eye-candy though it may be (to some people, not to me as I'm not impressed by it), if you have no experience with the game I doubt you will be as attracted to this show as someone who has played the game.
But maybe you are just suggesting that Advent Children is mindless with no real plot (and possibly the FF7 game as well), so it doesn't matter if you've played the game or not... |

There's some stuff I'd like to get from this sale at a discount better than a rightstuf studio sale (e.g., Shura no Toki). Unfortunately, there are some geneon anime (part of the rush to get geneon stuff while they're there) and manga I need to get from the current rightstuf sale and weekly special; and I already spent so much this month.
It seems that amazon doesn't indicate when this sale will end; given that, it's always best to order ASAP when there's some item you want and you've got the funds. Unfortunately, I can only hope that the sale is still on by mid January, at which time I'll be sure that CC charges will not come out in this coming CC bill but rather in the bill after that. |

Are you serious? Is that gunslinger girl boxset legit? If so... well, there goes some Christmas money!

Come to think of it, didn't the company who licensed Gunslinger Girl go bust recently? Does that mean Amazon probably won't be restocking the Region 2 boxset any time soon? They're out of stock at the moment.

No, Gunslinger Girl is licensed by Funimation who seems to be alive and well. You are probably thinking of Geneon and this wansn't one of their titles. Although, if you are looking at a R2 release the status of the R1 licensor probably doesn't make much difference one way or the other. |
