I assume this is the sequel to the series. It turned out to be a movie after all. I hope there is another tv series or movies after it.

It is.
I could see it be chopped up into Episode lengths for a TV broadcast, followed by the arc thats in the manga after the events of the movie.

If they're going to adapt the rest of the manga as movies, I hope it won't take them too long to make each movie. Made in Abyss is one of my favorite manga and anime.

So we won't get a chance to view it over here until March 2020 at best.... I guess Kinema Citrus couldn't tone down the next arc without butchering for TV after all...
