This is so gross. They couldn't just hire an artist? they had to steal from a Japanese artist and hope they didn't get caught? Sure shows how much Biggie Eyelash loves Japanese culture, since she's willing to steal from it to make money.

Dude, this is very obviously an issue with the people who actually make the merch. Billie Ellish doesn't micromanage her marketing.

You're blaming the wrong person here. The clothing was a collaboration with a company of scumbags called 'Siberia Hills'. They were responsible for the design of the clothing and it's likely Billie didn't know it was stolen - also considering she's only 17, so it's likely she thought she could trust a big name corporation.

How to downgrade one's high price boutique clothing brand: Steal someone's work and sell it as your own.

Upon doing quick Google search Siberia Hill sells their t-shirts and hoodies over $100 price range. I'm not into fashion or anything, but with their price at least they could commission the Japanese artist.

Do you think that doujinshi are tracing artwork or something? I'm not quite sure to your question.

Also, why in this world would you put "assuming this is true"? Did you not at all look at the article and examine the multiple times that this company has stolen artwork from artists and put it on clothing selling for a hundred dollars? There's no assumption needed.

American copyright law has looser protections against near copies, parodies and transformative works.

Registered trademarked imagines have tighter protections. But you have to register it in the U.S.
