Given that the Mono manga is from the same creator as Yuru Camp I was rather hyped for the anime and the first episode did not disappoint. A nice relaxing time with cute yet quirky characters and seeing beautiful vistas while having fun. Character wise An is a very lively one while Satsuki needs a goal/obsession to keep her going. Haruno meanwhile is amusing in how relaxed/lazy she is (when not behind the steering wheel).

The premise is simple but I am all in for the relaxing fluff.

As a fellow fan of Yuru Camp, I can't agree more! This first episode had a lot of charm and I hope that the series keeps that feeling up!

One of the things that I loved about the episode is the reference to the late mangaka, Osamu Tezuka when An revealed what her idea of a manga artist was.

Episode 1

For a guy who isn't mega into SoL shows these days, somehow I've ended up with three on the menu: this, Food for the Soul and That's Journey. Can't say 100% that I will stick with all, some or none of them, but all of them seem promising, especially this and Food for the Soul. I guess it's a little like last season where I claim I'm sick and tired of isekai and end up watching, like, 7 to completion.

Mono and Yuru CampΔ are in the same world, so there is the possibility of Easter eggs.

The second episode completed the main cast and both new addition are charming/quirky. Shikishima seems passive but is actually rather proactive and enjoys spending time working together with others. Kako meanwhile is a bike riding goofball. Comf factor wise it was another good one, having fun taking pictures, driving and eating while calming music plays. That goes particularly for that bit in the restaurant.

Okay wasn't expecting this anime to drop a Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels reference in there.

Um, comfort and a Yamaha WR450F supermoto conversion* do not belong in the same conversation, as any supermoto will become a PITA (literally)** after a couple of hours. Hope Kako took at least 3 days for her 1,200 km trip. Wonder if Afro rides or just chooses bikes based on how they look?

Seeing the girls use a snap-off blade utility knife while not wearing cut-resistant gloves drives me crazy (either offense would get people suspended at my work).

Those complaints aside, I loved watching the girls have fun, so 4.5 Stars for the weekly ranking.

*The WR450F is an enduro bike, but with a swap to 17-inch wheels and semi-slick sport tires will be at home on curvy paved roads (or a track day at a road course or karting track). Well, upgraded brakes and major suspension setup changes would also be highly useful, as well as a locale that allows it to be licensed for street use.
**My BMW G650 Xmoto is fun for the first two tanks of gas (about 220 miles/350 km***), after which the seat feels like a 2x4 and my throttle hand starts tingling from the Rotax induced vibration.
***Not an exact conversion, as that implies a degree of precision that does not exist.

The cast just isn't quite as compelling as Yuru Camp, but they're still good and this is above average for SOL (which I usually drop).

The other challenge is making the photography compelling; the best "hobby" part so far was the motorbike trip, which, well it could just be pulled from Yuru Camp. Thats not a complaint but the hobby segment here is more separated from that appeal; in Yuru Camp it was always like an appetiser to trips, whereas here it seems to need to become its own main course.

Given that Mono is from the creator of Yuru Camp I was wondering if we would eventually get a few teasers or cameos. What we got with episode 3 was a love letter not only briefly showing the main cast of Yuru Camp but also visiting a lot of the shown locations from it (with some fun comments thrown in). The Mono cast was having a lot of fun during the trip, it was more than just a love letter, it was also a strong episode of Mono and the bit at the start suggested what the girls could do next. The cast is growing on me even if they are indeed not (yet) Yuru level..

Finally, some lovely animation, especially during that lovely vista near the end.

Episode 3

So...

9:20 A Yamaha Vino 50 riding Shimarin is spotted in the wild.
10:44 Chiaki
16:04 Lying sisters Aoi and Akari
19:07 Nadeshiko

Where are Ena and Chikawa?

Interesting that in the world of mono, the Yuru CampΔ characters are real people, but their houses are not.

I hadn't read the comments or really looked into the show, so I felt a little jump scared by all the Yuru Camp references. It does explain why I had thought to myself that there wasn't anything super exciting about the premise and yet it had kept me weirdly drawn in. That show was a master of atmosphere and making lowkey moments really engaging.

They even had two Shiba Inu.

Rin calls them "bears" just before the one with the longer chain almost bowls her over. The dogs are (or at least were) real.

The scene of Rin smirking from one getting caught on the chain before the other tackling her is legit a scene I go back to often. Crunchyroll has a video on YouTube titled "Beware of Dogs". I think it is the kind of gremlin nature of that show is enjoyable, and I think also present in Mono.

Yuru Camp was pretty dog heavy, while Mono has had some fun featuring the cat.

Since it is on the official C-Roll YouTube channel, I presume posting the link is acceptable.
