@Tony K.
I think you hit on it by saying demons were bad by definition. At least in Western religions this seem to be the word attributed to supernatural beings that were the opposite of mankind. Beings that were incapable of being good. Since they don't really exist, many different attributes can be changed such as appearance social structure but any attempt to show them as not all bad or misunderstood says that they are not really demons but some group unfairly given the name. While other non existent races such as elves or dwarves can be either bad or good, (just like real people) it is not part of the basic definition of the race. |

Good points. I guess I'm just used to the context of Western demons in the sense of: they may/may not have some corporeal or spirit form and also possess some semblance of a soul. I'd been watching a lot of Constantine (movie and TV), Supernatural, Lucifer, The Sandman, and the Conjuring movies on and off during September and October, and all those skewed my thinking of demons to be more of a biological element. But in the context of this show, magic plays a much more prominent factor in the ecology of its fantasy world, which actually makes it even more intriguing, now. Thanks for the chime-ins

I agree with the notion that the demons are not evil, they are not able to understand why something is considered good or evil in the first place. I suppose one could argue that there is the possibility of a demon better understanding the other races when spending enough time with them but it seems far more likely that they just function in a completely different and incompatible way. That said, maybe the second season will surprise us by getting more into it.

Man, I've been taking screen caps of this and JJK all week, and the difference in artistic quality is night and day. There's so much good art in Frieren in terms of backgrounds, composition, and scope. It's so easy to find good caps for this, but a lot harder in JJK. All my caps for the latter are pretty much from the fights and comedic moments with the occasional background mixed in. I could probably do a whole post per episode of just backgrounds alone for this series.

Episode 15 was amazing, so many fun character moments, some good gags and the plant monster being pretty tricky to deal with.
