Finally actually happening. With this staff, it looks like this is basically a return to the Patlabor TV style. I forget if it was said outright that this continues the TV timeline, but it sure looks it.

There aren't really any "timelines" anyway, the continuity chart has arrows going in and out of different works.

I genuinely thought this had been totally shelved. It still looks promising and I really hope we get a Western release.

I like what I see but waiting this long on 8 episodes is killing me. They better not be TV-length.
The OVA canon 3rd movie is loosely based on a manga original WXIII arc, in itself a grittier take on the 3rd OVA (a Godzilla parody) but the manga is an AU version of the later made TV anime. The live-action show featured a 4th Godzilla parody, closer to the purely wacky OVA. The manga´s Griffon arc starts the same but ends differently from the TV canon OVAs and none of the other TV canon OVA plots are seen. The TV canon is and isn´t an adaptation of the manga. The live-action rubbish is its own 4th timeline that remakes or sequelizes plots from the OVA (movie 2) and TV (sewer gators) canon, so you can´t simply say what is "canon" to what. The IP became Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey near immediately. An infographic places EZY in the TV/The New Files canon, with the pitch short being non-canon. That graphic also placed TNG in the OVA canon and that just isn´t true. https://www.reddit.com/r/Patlabor/comments/u45rfx/official_continuity_chart_of_the_franchise_plus/ |
