Nah, something like that was never going to happen in a show that is basically a feel good story. Almost everyone gets a happy ending and a big part of that is Bertia being proven wrong. As for Heronia and her likely soon to disappear spirit: it is a sad end for them but they never once made the attempt of choosing a different path. Heronia stuck with wanting to be the chosen one because that is how the game worked. Had she made different choices she could have had a good ending too.

I'm curious about
(1) What exactly were those memories? The spirit sharing Heronia's memories of the original game? The original universe that was either spun off of the game (like, wished into being by the collective, obsessive imaginations of all those Otome fans) or the original universe that gave the imagination of some Japanese game creator a psychic goose or whatever. Not that I need a specific answer. It's just got me thunking. Edited to try to clarify all that meta-gunk.
(2) Obviously, how was that sentence going to be finished at the end? What's going on with Berti? Is she about to commit suicide because she's convinced her presence is what's throwing everything out of whack? Has she somehow wound up being blamed for the prince's condition and is about to be burned at the stake?
I also wasn't expecting the light spirit's end to be so sad.

I liked the comment that Heronia could have chosen a new path after finding out the future was changed, but refused to as she wanted to be chosen.

The latest episode would have been a great season finale, but apparently there are two more in the can, and I have a hard time imagining that both of them are going to be about a wedding or just wrapping up loose ends. Granted, just because I can't imagine it doesn't mean that it's not true - I recently got floored by developments over on The Klutz and the Skirt - I'm just saying.
It makes me wonder if we're going to get hints of future plot developments advancing some of those plot developments around war and espionage from a neighboring kingdom.
I'd be cool either way. This show has been a consistent pleaser for me.
I will say that the whole "Oh, so that's what youg meant by Maiden of Destiny!" thing was a bit of an anti-climax. I mean, it made sense given that Berti is an outsider and that some underlying realities weren't apparent just from playing the game - like the fact that the heroine's light spirit was charming people into being her harem members in the original scenario for example.
I like that the show made it clear that Berti isn't just a lovable ditz - I mean, she is a ditz, and she is lovable, but she's more than that. Berti had some serious reasons for keeping everything to herself even though it was rough, and it showed real strength of character.

Agreed, considering that every ending besides the Cecil ending is pretty damn dark it makes sense why Bertia was keeping it a secret and why she was so determined. In all other endings you have a bloody war plus everyone else besides that couple likely ending up miserable. With the new Bertia ending everyone gets to be happy with their partner (besides Heronia that is), the big question is if a war will take place or not. I would like to assume the answer is no with Cecil being more competent and driven than ever before.

I get that games like this typically have a True Ending, but is it common that all of the non-true endings are bad? Why would anyone pick anything other than the Cecil ending, except for achievements?
So not only does it make sense why Bertia was so determined to make sure why Heronia and Cecil wound up together, but it explains why Heronia was so obsessed about it too. I feel a little bit bad for her. It would be nice is she and Bertia could talk things out so that Heronia can find a happy ending too.

Well, there is a chance that Heronia can still get a good ending. It is honestly more than she deserves given that the episode made clear that her motives were not at all pure. Bertia cares for Cecil and the people of the kingdom so she worked as hard as she could to give them a happy ending while Heronia just wanted to be the chosen one and live the dream. It would have never worked out though, she might have tried to activate the events of the game but she never put in the effort to become a proper match/lady.
The episode very much felt like it would have been a fine finale.

Yes, Heronia acted selfishly, but was she really that different than Bertia? Bertia found herself isekai's as the villainess and was determined to fulfill that role. Likewise, Heronia was reborn as the heroine and thought everything would go her way. Both took to their roles enthusiastically. The problem is that both of them were ill-suited to those roles and both failed miserably at them. Heronia's excitement at being the hero probably blinded her to everything else.
I liked the curtsy she gave Cecil as she left. At that moment she seemed to finally realize she wasn't in a game. She understood what Cecil was doing and was thanking him for helping her understand what was really important and giving her a chance to fix what she had broken.
I had wished she and Bertia had had a chance to talk, but this was probably better, allowing her to come up with answers on her own. Now she and a reborn Pii-chan just need to show up to save Bertia from whatever her... little brother? is plotting.

I got curious and did a little web browsing - the original web than light novel series was only two volumes, so this anime probably covers all of it? If so, this last plot development probably won't be major or end in a cliffhanger, and the series will probably end in a wedding?
The proviso is that there was a sequel series called An Observation Log of My Wife Who Calls Herself a Villainess.
Either way, I've enjoyed this series throughout. Nothing earth shaking, but I've been consistently entertained.

I think it was a bit of an interesting reveal that his father was aware of the condition of lower emotions, and neither he nor the mother looked down on him being that way. He was told to better not make Bertia cry, but no part of his weaker emotions was something that made him less human. The whole "puppet" title was kind of just ableism.
