The novels for this one are stupid in a very entertaining way so hopefully the adaptation will capture that well.

The mostly mediocre animation is a bit of a pity but the premiere certainly has the silly charm of the series. Melody can make anything happen yet she chooses to be a maid who does not realize how utterly overpowered/broken she is. The presentation makes the most of said charm thus I look forward to seeing the maid chaos that is to come. |

The show reminds me a bit of that anime where the female lead recieves the op kick-ass blessing of a god, only to stay focused on her lifelong dream to become a guild receptionist, but only a little bit (I May Be a Guild Receptionist...but I'll something something a Boss to Clock out on Time!)
Seems doubtful that this show will have as much violence, for example, and that's a good thing given it's aims. As the first debuting summer show, I was neither looking forward to this anime nor reluctant to give it a viewing. I think it easily has enough charm to give a three-episode commitment. Take two goofy, earnest, likable female leads, put them between some slices of life scenes, add a garnish of intrigue, salt it with some tea and foodie gasms, add in some hints of romance (at least in the closing piece) and it was easy breezy fun. I sort of like the idea of an obsessive isekai protagonist using her OP magic to solve domestic problems and impoverished nobility challenges instead of demon outbreaks. |

Both leads are likable, and the OP aspect is mostly played as a joke so it's looking fine. The timing in the jokes feels a bit off, but good enough. Surely she can't keep this secret, so remains to be seen whether it's played mainly for laughs or more for drama.
Also: oh no, new season is starting and I've still got lots of unfinished shows from the winter left, not to speak of the spring season. Oh the struggle. |

I can see how the "super OP wizard uses power to clean floors" thing could be funny, but did this really need the isekai thing thrown in? Seems like the story would've worked fine without that tacked on.

I liked the second episode due to Melody making a mockery of the game world she finds herself in. The overpowered saint magic she has lets her do insane things like summoning an army of clones or smacking down monsters. She also breaks the original plot of the game completely by not following the script (or even being aware of one). I like that there are two other reincarnators who very much are trying to follow the script and are thus more than a little confused. |

You're in luck then because there's a lot more where that came from. Check out last month's "An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess" for the exact same multiple-people-reincarnated-into-an-otome-game plot. That one also has two players who are trying to stick to the game story but the scripted events keep getting thrown off by a third person, much to the reincarnated players' frustration.

Observation Log is indeed a good show and a successful variation from the standard villainess formula IMHO.
I was a little surprised to find out that this anime is another otome offspring, but I liked episode 2 for all the reasons I liked episode 1, and none of the new elements changed that. I guess the main questions for me are (1) whether the maid is going to change into a prince charming type figure for her employer next episode or find a stand-in who was an original capture target for the game's original heroine. It sounds like there were 5 capture targets from the title? And (2) whether or not her employer had any primary role in the otome game and what that might mean. The set-up of having the employer start out alone in a rundown mansion could be the beginning of a Cinderella or a villainess subplot. |

1: spoiler[No, Yes] 2.spoiler[ Roll yes, primary no,] Cinderella was an unknown, employer's family are known nobles so I don't think that fits. I'm not sure how you would fit a villainess plot into the existing story. |

Welp, I resisted reading your spoilers Alan45, and I thank you kindly for putting them in that format.
As to the Cinderella comparison, I am aware the employer is a noble. So was Cinderella, or at least she was from the kind of wealthy family that would get invited to a royal ball. It was Cinderella's stepmother who took control of Cinderella's legitimate family fortune after the father's death and treated her like a scullery maid. But, the reason I referred to it as a Cinderella style subplot was because the noble (employer) went from neglect and rags (literally) to a glamorous dress and a royal ball thanks to magic that was outside her expectations. Episode 3 fell more in line with the Otome game subgenre of anime, but there weren't any public repudiations of villainesses or saints getting exiled despite being one of the things keeping the country going. Instead, there were a lot of people with similar but conflicting agendas pinballing between the corners of a palace ballroom, and I enjoyed it. Still having fun with the show. |
