Well, they've officially lost a customer.

Paywalling your own store? What brain-dead, knuckle-dragging exec thought this was a good idea? Are they that confident in their chokehold over the industry that they think people will gladly pay them for the privilege of buying their products?

RightStuf was murdered for this. I want everyone to remember that.

Not that I care. I don't buy my merch from them.
In any case, they are just closing their store/merch division to all efects, they decided that's not their business anymore.

Rightstuf died for this. What a joke. I pretty much stopped buying from the Crunchyroll store anyway, but this is still stupid.

This is a [expletive] outrage. Now they want us to pay for the opportunity to pay them further? I'm done with Crunchyroll. Not buying their discs, not streaming their anime, maybe not even recognizing their voice actors any more, intentionally. I've put up with a lot of shit from this company, even back when they were just Funimation. It's over. Rot in hell, CR. I'm happily pirating everything they license from now on.

fudge Crunchyroll and Sony for this absolute dick move to loyal fans and customers. I’d cancel my membership if anime wasn’t such a large part of my life.

Yeap this is honestly the main reason I keep my subscription, i mainly watch anime so having CR is really convenient but they’re pushing me to go back to sailing the high seas at this point.

How greedy of them to paywall their own online store. Guess following my August pre-order for the Miss Kobyashi's Dragon Maid movie, I'm legit done offering my money to Crunchyroll.

One item I don't see called out in the article that was in the email:

"...and all member benefits for store discounts and free shipping will no longer be available".

Marx was right. End Stage Capitalism contains within it the seeds of it's own destruction.

I think very bad things are coming for the entire global economy, so we're in the squeeze and loot phase.

Gotta find some way to show higher tier subscriber growth, a sole metric excs need to get their bonuses which were their roundabout way to avoid paying higher taxes from their salary.

Sony, not content to push customers away from gaming by killing physical releases is now looking to push customers away from buying and subscribing to anime?

Are the accountants running Sony insane? It's one thing to raise prices... it's downright clownish to have people pay more simply in order to spend money, which is really what a gaming console comes down to, but at least those things are made of expensive physical components. What next? Paying more to use the product search box?
