The reunion was one of the chapters I was most excited to see adapted and they killed it. I had tears on my face when I originally read it and I got misty eyed during the opening sequence here. Her penciling in where her home used to be on maps is also just so freaking sad and shot of Robin standing on the edge of the cliff, so close to just jumping off, has stuck with me for a year and a half almost. It's just such a dark shot so being able to go from that to the scenes of her now all happy and acting as Bonney's pseudo-mom is just wonderful. One of my favorite details is how when Robin goes to see Saul she changes into an outfit very similar to what she had when they first met. The episode has so many little things too such as Nami and Robin complimenting each other and everyone wanting to be there for Robin for her reunion with Luffy in particular saying it's his job as captain to thank Saul for being there for Robin. Just wonderful stuff that reminds you why One Piece is the king of shonen and one of the best selling series in the world.

I am somewhat surprised that they were allowed to show robin nearly committing suicide and that wasn't censored

Okay Grant deserves a Pulitzer for "Ma'amdanavians" alone.

Is it the pacing of the anime partially because of the manga being slow in the post robin section? They seem to be doing a ton of world building and set up stuff with not a lot going on.

That’s exactly it. People put a lot of the blame on Toei (which is kinda fair) but the manga can be pretty slow-paced too, and the chapters the last two episodes have adapted haven’t given much to work with.

it's the detective conan issue of yes even when they adapt the manga properly it's still very commonly slow to very slow in actually moving the "main things" forward because the characters are thinking about or doing/learning about something else

Grant's write up about Shamrock's sword is spot on. Seriously, who comes up with "his sword is literally Cerberus, the dog heads can become part sword, and also they can detach from the body and fly around to stab people". One Piece is peak loony toons. And the mural reveal was one of the most anticipated moments for me since the chapter dropped almost a couple years ago now. It's one of the most impressive images Oda has put to page and while I do wish the anime had done a slightly better job for the big reveal of it, the lighting bugs me tbh, the build up from Robin was done excellently. Many people have made hours long videos breaking it down, though for my money the full confirmation after the earlier tease a couple episodes back that the world is in a post-apocalypse state twice over and the original world seemingly being closer to our own is something I'm SO curious to learn more about.

when it comes to dooing a proper would building and set up.
unlike before, this version of one piece only have 26 eps to work it. too short (should have been 50 per season ) in my opinion.
especially if this arc ends up being as long as the wano arc

Elbaph is currently clocking in at 64 chapters in the manga and given where it’s presently at the anime shouldn’t run that long.
Unless Oda decides to swerve the audience again.
