How long has Netflix also had the original run? Did that show up with the revival?

Would be nice to see the previous live-action Onizuka series - especially the one from the 90s - show up on Netflix and/or home video at some point too

The OG live-action GTO series is already on Netflix, along with GTO Revival. The only thing missing is the theatrical film. |

Yeah, Netflix has a surprising number of older JDramas. They still don't have Trick, though....

Oh snap, when I saw it came out I thought it was the original Japanese version coming to netflix, I had recently finished the live action Gokusen

Yeah, I saw something about this in a Amazon review for the Japanese Blu-ray Box so the video is most likely based off that release. |

Interesting... I'm a big fan of the first GTO live action adaptation, it's peak drama. This being a sequel directed and screenwritten by the same people who did such a stellar job on the old show, I admit I'm intrigued. Yet, on the other hand, I'm scared to check it out, because the actress who played the female lead in the 1998 adaptation apparently isn't in this new show. At least, not in the first two episodes, according to IMDb. The ending of the old show is quite romantically fulfilling, I don't want to watch a sequel only to find that Onizuka and his romantic interest from back then eventually separated. I'd rather keep it as a "happily ever after" ending in my mind. (Even though the new female lead is very pretty. 😂)

If you're in the mood for something with a similar vibe and haven't already, definitely check out Gokusen and Dragon Zakura, if you can. I *think* they're both on Netflix, but I'm not 100% sure. Very similar vibe to the original GTO tv series -- problem kids, unconventional teacher, shenanigans. |

I've already seen Dragon Zakura and read the Gokusen manga. I don't think I've seen Gokusen live action, though. |

It's worth watching, but uh... maybe temper your expectations (it's not as good as the manga, not by a longshot). IIRC only the first season really tries to follow the manga (mostly), with each subsequent season starting over with a new school and a new class of problem-students. It's still a fun show, and Nakama Yukie (the lead) is as good as she always is.
There's also an anime adaptation that I'm certain I watched at some point, because I loved the manga so much, but uh... I have zero memory of it. |
