There are quite many but Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai Deeper Kyo are best I think.

Ruroni Kenshin (also called "Samurai X" by ADV) is the best samurai anime series out there. There are others, but this is sthe best.

If you like live action samurai films, I suggest getting this: Akira Kurasawa boxset
There are many other good samurai films, but this is a good way to start.

Correct if I'm wrong but none of those two titles do a realistic portrayal of real samurai.

Well... there's peace maker kurogane. But that's more about after the samurai were finished off in what was showed in the Last Samurai movie you saw. *can't recall any anime with samurai in all the armor and stuff other then Samurai Deeper Kyo* But then Samurai Deeper Kyo should more likely be named as Demon Eyes Kyo >.>

And the funny thing is, I could probably count the number of actual samurai featured in the Kenshin franchise on one hand and have fingers left over. And none of them were even all that important to the story, just background characters. Laughing

If you like movies period, then picking up anything by Kurosawa is doing yourself a tremendous favour. Easily one of the greatest directors....ever, as far as I'm concerned.

Another great samurai anime is Hakkenden: Legend of the Dog Wariors. This is by no means an accurate portrayal of samurai, but I think it has a good story and decent animation (most of the time.

I'll edit this post with more samurai anime if I find them.

Cool thanks all... I guess i'm gonna try RUROUNI KENSHIN for a start.

Oh and just to add to my question, i don't mind if it's a movie even and it doesn't have to be all action and killing etc... as in I don't mind something just with a good story about them (Drama or something)...

and about:

I'm not sure what "UAE" means, but if you can only see one samurai film, it should be The Seven Samurai. Not only is this a great samurai film, but it is one of the greatest movies of all time.

What about the "Shogun" mini-series (I'm not talking about the 2 hour version which sucked). I liked it a lot and it has great story and production values (and it reminds me of the "Last Samurai).

I find it interesting that nobody mentioned "Ninja Scroll" yet. Here's a movie that has great action but is a little light on story.

P.S. Definitely watch "Rurouni Kenshin" and Kurasawa's films.

Once again, even though it is among my top. 5 of greatest anime ever, Ninja Scroll doesn't have much to do with samurai.

It's amazing that no one can think of an anime that is about an actual samurai instead of just some guy with a sword. But then again the word samurai means warrior so I guess you could say that a guy with a sword is a kind of samurai?!?

Well, there's always "Samurai Jack" ROFL Laughing Embarassed ! Seriously now, I can think of a view manga titles about samurai (Vagabond, for example) but I have hard time coming up with the anime titles. I'm gonna have to think about it and post here later.
P.S. I know that Jubei from "Ninja Scroll" is not a samurai (and neither is Kenshin) but there are other characters in that movie who are samurai.

Yes, Seven Samurai and Yojimbo are great works of Kurosawa. You might also want to check out the Lone Wolf and Cub series directed by Kenji Mishimi (and later Buichi Saito). Excellent fight scenes and a good plot. Btw, has anyone seen the J-dorama Shinsengumi Keppuroku? I've heard about it and I was thinking of buying it, but I wanted some opinions before I make a decision. *thanks*
I agree that Ninja Scroll would be right up your ally, including the TV series. Rurouni Kenshin is a good start; afterwards you should pick up the Trust and Betrayal OVAs. Also Blade of the Immortal is an awesome samurai manga. Anime smallmouth

A personal favorite film that you might enjoy is Rashomon, although it does not focus on samurai, the story about the rape of a woman, the murder of a man, and a bandit is told through each character's point of view. The storytelling is simple, yet deceptively complex. A very good Kurosawa movie. Wink
