So one of the first anime series i ever watched was Fushigi Yuggi:Mysterious play. I loved it. But I can't fing many other people that have seen it. Is there anyone who has an opinion worth hearing about the series? Also i think most of the characters are hot. Any opinions?

I really love FY. My favorite is, quite obviously, Nuriko. I have a huge obsession with this series. GO NURIKO!

I was really into this show, but I just lost intrest after awhile. I think it was the croni"oh, save Miaka" thing that got to me. I did, however enjoy the artwork.

I finished watching it a little over a month ago and enjoyed it very much. Here's the thread to my little discussion on it.

I quite liked this Anime. I saw it like 6 or 7 months ago but it still lingers in my mind. It was quite interesting to me. All that I knew was that Miyaka (probably spelt wrong) was MADLY in love with Tommahome (again, probably spelt wrong). Hehe. Wink O, you should watch the OVAs to Fushigi Yuugi.

I was quite obsessed with this series and it still ranks up there as one of my all time favorites. Sadly enough, I went out and bought every OVA as soon as they came out. Yu Watase's art is gorgeous though, plus all the characters are really lovable.

I saw this entire series about five years ago through a friend's VHS collection, and I absolutely loved it. Great story, great characters, all that jazz. Tasuki, Nuriko, & Chichiri absolutely stole the show for me.

The only real complaint I have is with Tamahome. He's a great character for the first half of the series, but he sorta falls into this rut of being an absolutely whipped little puppy later in the series. "Miakaaaa! Miakaaaaa!" and so on. Not saying he can't become a more intimate & romantic character, but...well...look at Tohya from Ayashi no Ceres. His feelings for Aya are expressed just fine, and yet he also remains "in-character" instead of degrading into a sappy shell of the guy from twelve episodes ago.

As a self-proclaimed Tamahome fan, I take issue with your statement, sir. He does wuss out a bit after the mid-mark of the series, but near the end, he really jumps back into the character he started out with. He sacrificed a lot for his ideals-- not to mention what he went through just to be with Miaka again at the end.

I'm definitely a huge fan of this series though. It was the first anime series I ever saw from start to finish, and even now, it's still one of my all time favorites (even if just out of nostalgia). Miaka gets painfully annoying after awhile, but Watase really does a good job bringing themes like betrayal and sacrifice into a stereotypically fluffy shoujo genre. The last OVAs they made sucked though. It felt too much like a self-insertion fanfic.

Yeah, I didn't like the last OVA a whole bunch. Also, for Tamahome being all "Miakaaaa! Miakaaaaa!", you have to remember, this is The Mysterious Play, it's about llllooooovvvvveeee.

Ditto. Eikoden really stunk. That Mayo girl is really annoying, and I felt the urge to see her die. The first OAV was OK, but it seemed a little disjointed compared to the TV series. Overall, I didn't like that one too much either.

I'm just surpised to know that Suzaku's voice was played by Sesshoumaru's seiyuu. Razz

I love the ED song as well!

The series is a good story that would have been even better if it weren't for Miaka. Most. Annoying. Character. Ever. She acts way to childish for her supposed age and her voice is also annoying. I love the guys though. Nuriko, Tamahome and Chichiri are my favs.

seemed like it was going in a good direction, but then it just got really lame towards the end. Miaka is a very annoying individual.

Poor Miaka. I didn't hate her, but I didn't really like her either. I seem to have this thing where I like pretty much anything by Watase, even her old, virtually unknown stuff that wasn't that good. Her style has come a long way since FY, and it'd be nice to see more of her stuff animated other then just FY and Ceres.
