So I have the Tenchi Muyo Ultimate collection from Pioneer. It's a three DVD set. I recently came accross a two DVD set from ACI. I was curious if the set from ACI was made before the Pioneer set and if it is a legit US release. I've tried to research info on it and haven't found anything that says that a 2 DVD set was made. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Doesn't sound like it. At the very least, it isn't a US release.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that two disk set.....is a bootleg.

The only other legit Tenchi Muyo English release that I know is the 4-disc singles release. 2 discs just isn't enough to fit all 14 episodes, even by current Funimation compression standards.

If they tried to fit it on two DVDs the quality would be terrible. But I herd the singles were most likely ripped from a laserdisc source (while the three disc edition looks much better than the singles version). I should upgrade Tenchi Muyo OVA plus Universe to DVDs but I'm pretty happy with the hard to find US Laserdisc releases. |

The Pioneer set has 14 episodes on 2-discs, but the special features took up another one, making the release 3- discs. This is a similar episode count as Fushigi Yugi and Fruits Baskets.

I herd the JP version uses four discs and the 14 episode was on three DVDs?

Are you talking about the first two OVAs? Those got so hard to find I just had to give up and torrent them, but right now I'm seeing this amazon set that says "Ryo-Ohki Complete Series." I think it's just the Ryo-Ohki 3 that was made to complete the old OVA storyline but the page isn't clear.

I looked at it and you're right-it's the third 7 epiisode series-not the first series that started the TM franchise.
