Just to toss this out, was there a Best Old Person tournament suggested as well?

Yep. Didn't get much support though.

There was, but really we're drifting a bit off topic now, as we're supposed to be analyzing this tournament. Choosing what we do next would merit a new thread.

A little mini-game analysis*:
The overall accuracy of everyone's predictions was 57.6%, which is a little on the low side. The round for the finals of Brackets C and D was the single round with lowest accuracy since I've been keeping records, at 5.6%. The Tournament final was the most accurate we've had at 44%, just a little better than the 41% from the Most Intelligent Tourney. Bracket A was the most accurately predicted, likely due to Section 9's sheer dominance of the tournament. This was the only tournament so far to see an increase in accuracy from the quarter-finals through both the semi-finals and final match (the Duos Tourney saw an increase from semi-finals to finals, but both were lower than the quarter-finals rate).

At a 19 point difference, this is the most decisive mini-game win we've had. The overall point spread from first place to last place is 1 point less than that of the Most Intelligent Tournament. This is also the first time the final winner was the same person who held the lead going into the semi-finals (although 2 of the 3 winners of previous tourneys had held first for at least one other round at some earlier point).

*I only have data for the past four tournaments (Team, Best Hero, Most Intelligent, and Best Duo), not ones that came before (Villain and Craziest).

Effective with this post, this thread is dropping off of stickied status since the tournament has now been over for a week. We'll be off for at least another week, maybe two, before the official discussion thread for the next tournament goes up. Feel free to use this thread to keep discussing possibilities until that time.

I think we need a bigger break than just a few weeks. At least a couple of months, although waiting until May or June would be better. Not only would it properly clean out the fatigue, but it would give us time to think of the next theme. And, as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Indeed, observing the tournament is really tiresome. But I'd rather hear someone else's opinion, someone who is setting up the tournament, like Key, or someone who voted during nearly, or all rounds. I'd say one or two months is the ideal(and I guess that's Key's plan).

So, I suppose we're allowed to start proposing new ideas, or discussing them? Maybe some more about "badass", since it looks like the most popular choice.

Well, I'd like to hear your views on why the tournament participation for the Teams/Organisations was so low. You know, so we can fix that problem in the next tournament?

One thing I noticed was that the volume of posts in the whole forum was down. It's slowly going up again, but it's not quite there, yet. Perhaps an organization tournament wasn't all that interesting, just like some said, it could be that the winner was clear from the beginning, or it could be that there were too many unknown teams people just decided not to vote. I really doubt that spending 10 minutes once a week, to vote for some teams, could actually cause any sort of fatigue. Another thing I noticed was that those who were putting up arguments nearly all rounds are those eagerly waiting for a new one.

I think a good amount of it had to do with the formatting of the tournament matches and the obvious winner. Too many close matches took place in the first couple matches than past tournaments that I've been involved in might have exhausted some of the early voters. Then, there was the steamrolling of Section 9. With their presence in the tourney, many folks might have gotten the mentality that they would stomp through the entire thing and some thought it would be pointless to vote in a tourney where the winner was clear from the start whereas the Most Clever/ Intellect and Best Hero/ Heroine tournaments had enough unpredictable developments.

I think the fact that some people had favorites that were knocked out early could have attributed to fatigue. Even though previous tournaments such as the Most Clever tournament with L also had clear favorites, Section 9's seemingly assured victory may have discouraged some from voting. Overall, it still seemed like an interesting tournament, but I also think it is time we have most something tournament and not another best tournament. I am also strongly in favor of having the tournament sooner rather than later, but then again that's not a surprise if you look where a majority of my posts come from. I also believe that picking the right theme and not needlessly delaying these tournaments will energize voter participation. There has been one idea in particular that been longed for over a year, and I believe it is time that it sees the light of day. With a solid theme like that, I bet voting would skyrocket.

Oh, I think Biggest Badass, if we ever do it, would be far less predictable than some seem to think. While Guts would be a leading contender, I would hardly consider him a shoe-in to win. (And once you know about what Dark Schneider does, you'll understand why.)

Actually, I think that concept would be most interesting for seeing which dark horses pop up and do well. For instance, Kirika from Noir would hardly be one of the first people you'd think of as a badass, but she does some pretty damn badass things in that series.

This is why I've petitioned for that particular tournament for a while. There are some fan favorites and obvious candidates but there are A LOT of characters that could do quite well that many would never even consider. I really don't think that tournament would be near as predictable as people think. Whenever voting gets underway for the next I'll be petitioning for Biggest Badass once again. Hopefully I'll time to participate with the next one regardless of topic and not be in-between moving and job hunting. I am happy Section 9 won though.

Please, please, please don't delay the next tournament too long. I am a huge fans of these tournaments, and I felt that there was a lot of great discussion even with this last tournament. While the last match may not have been intense since most people seems to convince themselves it wasn't close and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy, I still felt we had a healthy number of people. Heck, we even had some new people come in.

As for the next tournament, I really just want one that's interesting and a little different from what we have done in recent past. I am not exactly sure if I would support including manga characters though. There are far too many and more importantly they can conflict with the anime versions of themselves.

Excellent point. I can think of at least two from two different series where they are like that.

No, keep the tournament manga free.

It's now been well over two weeks since this tournament has ended. We all have had more time to think about new ideas for the next tournament. I also know that several posters, myself included, are eagerly awaiting the new thread for the next tournament idea. While it appears there is an idea that is likely to garner a fair amount of support, I have at least two ideas may give that idea a run for its money. I am also sure that others have some great ideas as well. Honestly, I don't think fatigue will be an issue, especially if we can pick a topic that can get both old and new posters excited about it. For those that need an extended break, feel free to not participate, but don't ruin the fun for all of the posters who are really looking forward to the next topic.

I'll get this ball rolling sometime next week, so be thinking seriously about what ideas you might suggest over the weekend.

Hopefully, the thread for the next tournament comes sooner rather than later. I have about a million ideas of what we can do for the next tourney whether they are original or any good that's another question entirely. It also doesn't help that I have practically carved a dent in my floor from all of the pacing back and forth I have done in anticipation for the next tournament. I could be exaggerating a little bit, but I am still really looking forward to this next thread. I could be wrong, but I couldn't possibly be the only one looking forward to the next tourney? Am I right or am I right? I really thought there was a lot of people looking forward to particular idea about badassery.
