Unfortunately, from the reviews I've read, it's a "lets tell the 26 episode story in a two hour movie" . So the answer is yes.

Yea, I think they're usually bought by people who are too lazy or poor to buy the real tv series. Condesned movies almost always do an excelent job of destroying plot structure, character development, and the overall feeling of a show.

I'm only interested in seeing this movie for one reason: I want to see the new ending. I just hope it makes more sense the the ending of the TV series.

Y'know i was seriously thinking of renting the BG movie, but i guess my suspicions (of this being a movie from compiled episodes from the TV series) are more than confirmed.

I didn't really care for the premise/storyarc of the said series, but if it were an actual flick with new animation and a better storyline, i wouldv'e given it a shot or even a purchase.

Although many people dismiss Koichi Ohata's works as cliche dystopian sci-fi/horror (Genocyber,Cybernetics Gaurdian,MD Geist etc.)
in some ways they relate to his recent, often venerable Blue Gender. it's all junk food Anime. fun to watch, but not utterly compelling.

Blue Gender is not a masterpiece. But I wouldn't call it junk food anime. DBZ and Pokemon are junk food Anime.
Blue Gender does does have some very strong subtext about humanity, technology, nature, and social critism that is generally well done. Of course this isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Some people have some problems with the ending. My only complaint with the ending is that it is rushed.

All the best,

Nani?

Well this movie is going to kick some serious butt, there are going to be some new clips in it that was not in the series.....The Blue Gender movie is really just a movie version that condenses the series into 90 minutes and reuses alot of the same animation too.

Although i agree in regards to Blue Gender's underlinig commentaries (Humanity/ethics,War etc.) The series is not as original as one may think,It's a bit simular to the classic series Genesis climber Mospeda (Robotech; the new generation) and that series tackled the same subjects. but with more class; no over the top Gratuitous violence or /Invid-like creatures with Vaginal mouths. But that's Koichi (Ohata) for ya. And yes the ending sucked. In spite of it's flaws, BG isn't a bad series, just not really my cup of sake. Wink

All the best to you as well. Cool

I watched it at Comicon, and I must say, although the series was not bad, I was very dissapointed with how it turned out to be clips from the show, combined with a couple new scenes, and an alternate ending that was way worse than the TV show's ending(IMO it was one of the worst endings I have ever seen in TV shows/movies).

Overall I'd say the movie wasn't all that bad, but I highly doubt I'll ever pay to buy it.

Of course it didn't really help the moviegoing experience when the guy in charge of the anime(at Comicon) let us watch the first 70 minutes or so in English(with no subs), and then comes in and interuptes the movie to change it to Japanese with Eng. subs for the final 25 minutes(what a jerk, IMO).

Thanks for reading.

I have Blue Gender: The Warrior on DVD, as well as the TV series.

Although it copies scenes from the TV series, the movie is mostly (if not entirely) new animation. If you look closely, there's a quality to the rendition of the characters in many parts of the movie that is more reflective of computer animation than the cel animation that was primarily used in the series. Also there's too many small differences in details for the movie's animation to be heavily borrowed from the series; Yuji has long hair while being rescued at the beginning in the movie and got his hair cut later, for instance, but he was short-haired from the start in the TV series.

Considering that the movie is compressing 26 episodes of story into only 95 minutes, it doesn't come off too badly until towards the end. I wasn't terribly pleased with the way the movie ended, primarily because it rushes the ending even more than the series does, but if you're watching it without having seen the series then you probably won't mind.

One thing that is partly lost in the movie is the musical score that so helped along the series. You also don't get the full feel of the growth and change of Marlene and Yuji that you do in the series (which is what really made the series watchable for me) or the full impact of the more tragic elements.

All of the voice actors from the English dub of the TV series reprise their roles in the movie. I always did like the dub.

And in any case the Blue Gender movie is a far better adaptation of the series than the RahXephon movie. Talk about a hack job. . . Confused
