I hope Funi releases that dumb poem memorization card game thing, too. That way I can ignore it when it comes out. My deepest fear is that NISA will pick it up (it's much more of a NISA title than a Funi title, unfortunately) and because I have sworn to buy every PE title that NISA puts out, I'd have to buy a show that I kind of despise. (I lasted 2.5 episodes before giving up in horror). So yeah, Funi, please save my bacon, make willag and others happy and release this stinker.

My top 5 purchases were:
Code Geass Darker than Black Spice and Wolf Phantom: requiem for the phantom Broken blade I wouldn't mind if Funi released some sub only shows that otherwise wouldn't even get released at a good price. I don't mind not having fancy packaging like NIS releases, that's always optional since I prefer consistency. I like all my stuff to be neatly lined up in the same sized art box / dvd case if that's possible but unfortunately cases and art boxes come in different sizes. In my perfect world, EVERYTHING would come in standard DVD sized cases and DVD sized art boxes |

according to the extras on CPM's release of Battle Arena Toshinden (Uncut Version) It was the first dual language (hybrid) anime on dvd released in North America in March of 1997 (and the first dual language dvd ever according to the announcer). |

@Blood-
I have reported your post for obscene content. On Sunday I'll be going in to church for the first time in about 10 years to pray for your poor, misguided soul. Oh, and you'll be receiving divorce papers in the mail soon. WINK Honestly, my first choice for a Chihayafuru release would be NISA, and I think it fits more in line with them than any other potential US company. And TKoH, a lot of the complaints you recently posted for Sentai in the Community forums are the same complaints I have. I like Funi's LE releases, so if it were possible to have them release series like Chihayafuru then of course I'd take Funi over Sentai. As for my top 5 releases: 1. Revolutionary Girl Utena 2. Puella Magi Madoka Magica 3. Steins;Gate 4. Soul Eater (BD) 5. Birdy the Mighty Decode Of course, after the fact I kicked myself in the butt for not putting down more limited releases from other companies (I just went with recent favorite series). Eff me. I should have added Moribito's LE from Media Blasters, Gurren Lagann's LE from Bandai, and something from NISA. And as for my first DVD/BD release? I think it was Rurouni Kenshin. I had started collecting the series on VHS, but made the switch half-way through. I had been collecting VHS for several years before that though, so I'm not entirely certain. |

Really disappointed in the survey. They're more interested in what I think about a stupid 7 second unobtrusive intro video than what titles I want to see licensed? That ticks me off FUNimation.
My top 5 purchases of the past three years: Time of Eve Movie Evangelion 2.22 Honey & Clover Seto no Hanayome Nodame Cantabile I wish there was a lot more place for actual feedback. Pretty sad. Oh, and that whole 'you should be watching' is fine I guess. I don't see why they should bother caring about such a minute thing when there are vastly more important questions that they should be asking their customers. |

I too wish they left a general feedback or suggestions box at the end of the survey so they would get a general sense of the most important issues that we are concerned about. I'm surprised they didn't ask us about the logo (7 second video) sooner. You may not know it but those 7 seconds are HUGELY important in marketing and business! For example when I was in highschool 2 years ago a teacher asked the class to recognize as many logos and slogans as we can and associate the company with those slogans. She then asked us to identify national flags and anthems of countries and we could barely manage 3.... So in short the logo and catch phrase (those 7 seconds) is VERY important to any business model. If you don't believe me go ask anyone's who's taken macro economics and marketing. In short those 7 seconds are much importanto when you considering the influence they have on aspects such as brand, image, potential distribution, and intrigue factor. I'm sure you know the slogan "Badadada, I'm loving it!" along with the huge golden M (golden arches) or what ever they're called from a certain fast food joint which I love. |

I don't buy that argument. I already know of McDonalds. Having some stupid diddy like 'I'm lovin' it' doesn't make me want to eat there any more than usual. Similarly I don't watch FUNimation videos to see the 'You should be watching' clip. I watch FUNimation videos because they have legal rights to anime that I want to watch.

Proof! http://www.practicemakesawesome.com/animerica-magazine-sailor-moon-voice-actor-interview-july-1997-vol-5-no-7/ Animerica article on the first 3 DVD releases in the US: Battle Arena Toshinden – US Manga Corps Street Fighter II- The Animated Movie – Sony Music Corp Ghost in the Shell -Special Edition – Manga Entertainment Retailer Anime Direct had the first DVD ad in the Animerica June 97 issue. Manga had the first company DVD ad, CPM didn't state DVD in their Toshiden ad. This is my side fun anime history project. I had the same questions you had. Lance History Nerd and FUNimation Guy |

Wow, I guessed right then. I put Ghost in the Shell as my first DVD. I didn't buy the other two. The reason of course, is because I could.
Now I have a question, why did you want to know? |

Well that was a kind of a crap survey. I didn't even get to vent over my frustration about all this DVD/BD/cardboard slipcase shit and the fact that I'm left with a few old BD/DVD combo packs in DVD cases and a super-tacky Darker Than Black 2 artbox with absolutely zero use.

Ugh, I suddenly now remember: For "other" on subbed stuff, I put Media Blasters (because I recall buying, and loving, Simoun, oh yeah, Tekkaman Blade was sub only too), but forgot to put Discotek (the second and third Fist of the North Star sets I bought were sub only, not to mention they plan to release a lot of stuff sub only)

Yeah I was expecting one as well. But since we've got lheiskell here I'll go ahead and comment here. First, the final request for contact info didn't ask for a street address, email, or phone number, so I'm wondering how they plan to find people. There was a question before that where you could enter an email address to subscribe to their newsletter, but I left that blank because I'm not interested in the newsletter. I figured there'd be one more page at the end asking for email or something but then the survey just ended haha. Anyway, regarding Funi's products, I'm only interested in the streaming service, and have a couple of things I couldn't get across via the survey: I don't currently have an Elite subscription, but the survey page with the ranking of reasons didn't include my real reasons. I do have a subscription to Crunchyroll, and the reasons for that difference are: 1) Number of simulcasts I want to see I don't think there a whole lot Funi can do about this considering CR's position, relationship with TV Tokyo, etc. but for example this season only has one simulcast on Funi that I'm watching (Robotics;Notes) and I just don't care about seeing it in HD with no ads enough to go Elite for that one single show. 2) Hard subs Most Crunchyroll shows and at least some Viz shows let you turn off the subtitles. 3) HD limited to 720 This has only recently started to become an issue as TV anime is finally exceeding 720 lines at the production level. 4) And of course, CR holds free access back a week for most shows. I'll be honest, if Robotics;Notes was delayed a week for free members, or behind a paywall completely like some of TAN's stuff, I would have an Elite subscription. Not sure how much of your audience would instead go "screw that I'm gonna pirate it," but speaking as someone who doesn't pirate stuff, there you go. I do have an interest in Funi's back catalog and some day when I'm caught up on other things I probably will get an Elite subscription for that, but currently for simulcasts it hasn't quite felt necessary. |
