Ep 5:

In 5 minutes the first prince has become the most well realised character of the entire story. That was effective story telling and I appreciate it. Meanwhile Philia has her first moments of emotional realisation, very good, I appreciate that. She might be a bit too perfect to feel real at times but that was good material. Such as being the perfect teacher to an adoring never questioning student.

The mustache twirling of Philia`s home country remains so over the top I can not take any of the characters there seriously.

Ah, so now it's reversed where the littler sister is the less busty one and self-conscious about her older sister versus Philia/Mia. And she's even a Philia fangirl! I feel like Mia and Grace will get along well.

Philia is slowly recognize how much her families' verbal abuse and lack of approval colored how she saw/reacted to everything, even Mia's genuine love for her, is slowly realizing how much she cares about Panacorta and that she's allowed to care and feel things all her own, and is slowly but surely falling for Osvalt's charms. It's some great development for her.

Reinhardt's love story with Elizabeth reminded me a lot of a similar Saint Romance in Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence.

How much more of a green flag can Osvalt be? I'm really curious how he'll react to Girtonia asking for Philia back, but he's obviously not happy about it. I'm curious if Mia had a hand in this.

considering that the ninja girl asked her if she wants to leave and mia is seriously considering it after all the bullshit her country put her sister through, its a safe bet that she indeed became a runaway saint!

At the beginning of the season, I expected this one to be just a filler title in my viewing schedule. Somewhere along the line, though, it's risen to become both a priority view and my favorite new title of the season. Yeah, the animation quality leaves a lot to be desired, and it still has some generic elements (there are at least two other series this season which feature "don't appreciate how abnormally strong he/she is" gimmicks), but I've enjoyed watching Philia gradually start to understand how appreciated she is and especially the twist about how Mia's not cool with being her sister's replacement, to the point of covert rebellion.

And I definitely agree that Philia meeting Grace is at least as important for Philia as it is for Grace.

Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses.

Prince Julius is that most dangerous of political figures: someone who thinks he's much cleverer than he is and couples that with a total disregard for the well-being of the citizens.

My god, how horrible it would be to have leader like that as the head of your country. I can't imagine. Cool

I'm right there with you on Himari's murder suggestion. Technically Julius is assassinating his father, just doing it slowly, but Mia's right that without proof of Julius's crimes it could lead to war. Mia's beginning to remind me a bit of the bride in "Kill Bill". Her focus for now is Julius but one has to wonder if her parents will be next.

You can't say Mia didn't give Julius every chance she could to get a wake-up call and improve how he's handling things. It's not her fault he's hopelessly inept, convinced of his own genius, an utter misogynist, a smarmy opportunist, and so insecure that he'll do anything to validate his own ego. Oh, and did we mention he's deliberately ensuring his father heads to the grave to secure his power? There's no redeeming him.

Philia recognizing how she has people she can rely on now is a joy to watch.

Himari's go-to method of dealing with Julius being murder is respectable, if nothing else. But that won't let them savor the revenge if they kill him off too quickly.

More intrigue with the demons, from an exorcist with a demon partner to a brainwashed noble who puts Julius on the path of possibly freeing Asmodeus.

It's heartwarming how despite all her families' efforts to separate the sisters and prevent Mia from getting close, they couldn't prevent Mia from being interested in her big sister and seeing her as a Hero. If not for that, Mia would probably have ditched her Saintly duties and Girtonia, but she'll still do her duty...and get sweet revenge in the process.

I'm wondering if I'm assuming too much in expecting Mia to get her own romance with the 1st prince Fernand while working with him to undermine Julius.

Mia is by far the strongest written character, with Philia being the only other one with time put into their depth. Her complicated emotions and turmoil induced rage works really well, it makes random ninja and Sophia's support cast look like cardboard cutouts in comparison.

It almost feels like Mia's story is the one the author wanted to tell and Philia's story is the one they needed to sell to get the story attention.

I do worry about the story wanting to use demon possession as another plot gap filler. That could lead down to some very unsatisfactory hand waving if used too much.

I had a feeling they were setting up a MiaxFernand ship and that seems to be the case. Sure, Mia only sees Fernand as a means to an end in terms of saving the kingdom and screwing over Julius, just another part of her duty as a Saint in dealing with another high-maintenance Girtonian prince...but they're much more alike than she realized and it seems like her speech really did a number on him (like it did me). I can dig it.

Philia letting looser her inner Dahlia with those accessories.

Philia getting genuinely emotional over Mia and expressing how much she truly cherishes Parnacorta, and realizing she's not alone, is some great development on her part. She's really coming into her own as a person and discovering her true feelings.

I was hoping we'd get to meet Grace's sisters. And they're actually plot relevant!

i would not go that far. from the way she had a near panic attack after hearing a voice in ep 4, its more than obvious that phillia will have a major story and is the one the author wants to tell. sure mia is important, though not to that length!

I was thinking when Julius was Trumping it up a couple weeks ago that in addition to being a perfect projection for my insecurities about American politics, that this would be a story about the cycle of familial violence and how the traumas of past generations bleed into the present and future. I don't expect the show to be ultra-serious about it, but I would not be surprised if the royal family tree was covered in thorns and that Philia and Mia are the roses that grew from the concrete or some other flowery language.

Its nice the elder prince hasn't instantly recovered. Its not that deep an arc but it "exceeds expectations".

If your going to have paper thin endlessly evil villains, maximum melodrama is absolutely the direction to go in.

Overall, I think the show has slightly surprised on the upside simply by making Mia overall even more the main character; she has a more interesting plotline than Phillias not unenjoyable but fairly rote one.

I didn't think the Adenauer's could outdo Julius in terms of being terrible but kidnapping a child and gaslighting the mother of said child and then emotionally abusing that child after getting the biological daughter you wanted...it's sickening.

Honestly I half-expect them to reveal that they were somehow involved in Hildegard's husbands' death. I mean, take him out and you killed her motivation to get her daughter back and also prevent her from having another kid that could rival the Adenauer family Saints. Honestly probably the biggest tragedy is it means Philia never had a chance to know her true father.

Philia doesn't need saving but Erza has such a nice vibe.

The Mia and Fernand ship is developing nicely. Both of them are becoming a good team who support each other and back each other up, and empathize with what they're going through emotionally.

I want to say I'm surprised Julius refused any aid from Parnarcorta...but let's face it, it's on-brand. As is trying to arrest Philia for treason on basically nothing. Mia literally can't even with him any more.

What a crazy situation we have now. Hildegard looking to adopt Mia once the dust has settled and her family is destroyed, her "revenge" for them having stolen her daughter in the first place, and yet she's also doing it because she knows that Philia truly cherishes Mia as a sister and that it would unknowingly make them legal sisters since Hildegard is he real mother. At least Mia and Hildegard can bond over their shared adoration of Philia.

I can't help but feel like they are getting too thin, Julius being comically stupid and evil is one thing, but all the people backing him are just ignoring the fact that his stupidity is going to get them all killed by monsters. "We are backing him for the throne" doesn't make much sense unless the country survives.

now i am certain that this author have taken hints from magical revolution of the reincarnated princess light novel!

i mean the whole origins of how the relationship between hildegard and her younger brother turned from sibling jealously to such toxicity and hatred for one another is basically the same as what occured between ainspha and her brother aleguard!

Ah, with that I meant the child stealing parents (the melodrama). The politics is, indeed, dumb as a brick. It would definitely benefit from being less so, but I took it as just a price of admission from the start.
