Hi all i'm new to the site Very Happy

I picked up the first volume of the Dragonball Z Viz Big edition and really enjoyed it and I was hoping maybe they will be releasing more titles in this format like Naruto and others

Does anyone know if Viz plan on adding more titles in the future? has there been any news on this?

Cheers in advance

I don't recall any news about new series being released in omnibus format, but I know Vagabond is still early in an omnibus re-release. Volume 1 of the omnibus (contains 3 volumes each) came out a few months ago and the second is coming out soon. I think there's 28 normal sized volumes in all.

Also, I'm almost positive they won't do one for Naruto unless it's a good few years for now. They're doing another Naruto Nation (releasing a bunch of volumes in a short time) and it'll be up to volume 44 in April IIRC. So an omnibus on that wouldn't be very logical.

Like Agoston I haven't heard about any nre releases being issued in this format. But there are old titles such as Vagabond, Rurouni Kenshin, and just Dragonball that are available. Also VIZBIG will release after the beginning of the new year Fushigi Yugi and Hot Gimmick in the VIZBIG format.

If you like this kind of formatting Tokyopop is also releasing ultimate editions of their manga. These editions are like VIZBIG except that they are hardbound and I don't believe that they restored any color pages (like Viz did for Kenshin). Also there are many other omnibus editions of other works; such as Gunsmith Cats from Dark Horse.

Any chance you would know which titles Tokyopop is releasing in that format? I've been wanting to get a few of their series (Welcome to the NHK! and Love Hina come to mind), and it'd take up a lot less space in that format. Not to mention the cost difference, although I'm not entirely sure if it would be the same as it is with Viz. I was looking at the Rurouni Kenshin manga (have a volume of it, which I love) and it's cheaper to buy the VizBig volumes, than the single volumes.

I'm notorious for doing this but here is a link to a listmania! list:

http://www.amazon.com/Omnibus-Editions/lm/R35NZPDVQ2KJRK/ref=cm_lmt_srch_f_1_rsrsrs1

I know that Tokyopop has Battle Royale, Fruits Basket, Dramacon, Warcraft, Demon Ororon, Samurai Champloo, and Princess Ai. So far no word on either Love Hina or NHK being added to the list (honestly you probably have more hope for Love Hina). However, keep in mind that Tokyopop is scaling WAY back. Almost all of their releases have been delayed. I know because I'm waiting for the ultimate edition 4 for Fruits to be released - its been about a month or so delayed thus far.

Also keep in mind that Tokyopop has done a very sneaky thing. They also release 1-3 collection sets. These set are ONLY 1-3 vol collect sets. It does not continue onto 4-6, or 7-9 - but ends at 1-3. It is a teaser for the rest of the series. A teaser though it may be but I want the Chibi Vampire 1-3 set and it is (unsurpriseningly) delayed.

The quality of the books are excellent and all but Viz could have done better...

So, you ask why would I be disappointed for a re-release of popular manga with cheaper price, higher-quality paper and color pages?
Here are the reasons.

1.-Color pages.
No, I don´t dislike the color pages, I dislike that Viz did not publish all the chapters that should have come in color with their color pages, not in Kenshin, DB or DBZ VizBig releases.
How can I notice?
Well, for any avid readers is just obvious; i.e. in DBZ VizBig1 there are 2 chapters in color, and the last chapter that should be in color is the last chapter of the VizBig volume (Where Goku and Vegeta fight) and the difference is pretty notorious, just look at Goku´s Gi from that chapter and it looks waaay different from his Gi in the last couple of chapters (The gi is white in the grand mayority of the pages-B&W pages-, obviously when color pages are printed in Gray scale the tones are different).

Whomever that owns the Vagabond Viz Big edition would be so kind to tell me if all the chapters that have color pages, have the color pages? (I guess they do, but I still want some confirmation)

2.- There was a re-edition of these titles already.

Aside from Vagabond both DB and Rurouni Kenshin had been re-editions named "kanzen" which mean "perfect editions"... Though they aren´t perfect, but I won´t say more since that would have to be in a topic about this editions.

Basically, Viz gave us a 3-in-1 volume with a few color pages, instead of giving us a re-edition with new cover-work and extras.
i.e. Dragon Ball Kanzen edition has about 4 new color pages in the ending of the series, not any shocking but still a nice extra, though I kinda hope Viz will get it for their VizBig.

I still have some hopes for "kanzenban" releases in the U.S. probably in 2-3 years... And for about $10-12 U.S. dollars per volume. With a format similar to that of REAL

Personally I love what they did with REAL (Other of Inoue´s works) VIZ published the color pages that even the japanese volumes don´t contain, same with Slam Dunk though I don´t know if volume 1 comes with the color pages of chapter 5 (Please anyone that has that volume tell me...) or if they were published in color in U.S. Shonen Jump.

3.- Censorship.

Don´t need to say more.

Yeouch. You're dreaming with that kind of price range. The Hana yori Dango kanzenban, for instance, are 1200 yen each. With the normal mark-ups, there's no way they'd go for under $15.

Well, that´s because kanzen editions have like.. The most beautiful, tyep of paper my eyes have ever seen; I really, really, really doubt Viz would use that paper, also the paper used in color pages for the kanzen edition is waaay different from any kind of paper I have touched in any american publication.
Viz titles from their Signature line have about 220 pages and contain color pages, are the exact same size as the kanzen edition size, so it would be around that range of price ($12.99).

Though that´s not necessarily the case, in example Italy sells the kanzen editions for 4 Euros and that´s cheaper than the original price in Japan (1,000 Yen for most kanzen editions of Jump Comics).

for a non-3-volume reissue, i really rather enjoyed viz's decision to put Oishinbo out in the larger trade format. though, i hope a single release wasn't all they were contemplating.
