I'll admit it i like shows like naruto and dbz where there is lots of "leveling up" and fighting. Are there any other good shows like this? What are your recommendations?

Ranma's more romantic comedy, but we get a variety of martial arts in each of the box sets since Ranma's one of these wants to be strongest out there types.
Shaman King has battles, but it's of the magical vein. It is very funny, though
Fist of the North Star is probably a classic of the genre.
Saint Seiya's some magical, but lots of fighting, One of the qualifications of being a Zodiac Knight must be extra blood because these teens lose tons of it, particularly Dragon. And someone's usually dead at the end of their battles.

Rurouni Kenshin the TV series is good, but it's not quite the same formula. It's a little similar in that aspect, though it conentrates a lot more on character development. It has a good mix of fighting and drama in it, and when I first saw the battles through the Chuunin exams of Naruto, it reminded me a lot of Kenshin, which is why I have the show (Naruto) very high on my list to this point.
Also try G Gundam, they're mobile suits, but the battle systems for them require a movement interface kind of thing where the Gundam moves however the pilot does. A lot of the fights are between the Gundams but a few of them are between the actual fighters in the suits as well. It's not quite what you're looking for, but follows the "street fighting with powers" theme.

I'm not sure what "leveling up" means [is that the Seiyan/Super Seiyan(sp?) thing?]
But as far as good shonen anime goes, I have to agree with the recommendation of Rurouni Kenshin TV. Kenshin, I think, is on par with Naruto in that there are lots of interesting stories and non-two dimensional characters to keep the story engaging and entertaining. The fight scenes are especially good, particularly the one between Kenshin and Saito. The character development is important in this show which gives purpose to the fight scenes. You always know why two characters are fighting and none of it seems redundant or meaningless.
There's also quite a bit of 'technique and fighting style' name shouting during fight scenes, which I find reminiscent of DBZ. The fight scenes in Kenshin, with certain exceptions, tend to wrap up relatively quickly (in an episode or two at most) compared to 5++ episode scenes common to Naruto or DBZ.
You might like Yu Yu Hakusho TV as well. I haven't watched a lot of it, but from what I've seen there's a lot of epic fight scenes and the story progresses at a rate similar to DBZ.
It's been a while since I've watched it, but I'll also second G Gundam. In addition to what Tony K said; the fight scenes are entertaining, but the part about that show I enjoyed the most is Domon Kasshu's ego. He wants to fight ALL THE TIME and will challenge anybody, a little like Naruto. He usually thinks he's better than the other guy, until he gets beaten; in which case he does the tough guy thing where he obsesses about why he was beaten and resolves to become stronger at any cost if only to beat who's beaten him. If "leveling up" means what I think it does, than there is similar stuff in here with the Gundams. Fight- technique- name- shouting is also included. Its good stuff- not as good as Kenshin or Naruto but good nonetheless.
Hope that helps!

GetBackers is fun. A bit more X-Men than DBZ--it's a bunch of special powered youth (mostly 18, I believe) battling one another. Akabane is cool. He throws scalpals & kills for fun. Ban has the Evil Eye & a strong grip on top of various skills(plays violin). Ginji can channel & create large amounts of electricity. Shido can control & mimic animals. Kazuki uses wire/string as a weapon. Himiko uses perfume to control people.
Soul Hunter has several battles, although I don't really think of it as a fighting title. It's frustrating because it goes thru characters like candy. One of the next ep previews refers to itself as the anime with a body count.
Bastard is an older title & short(6 eps), but there are several good battle eps.
I'm enjoying the Flame of Recca manga, but the anime is only just being released here, so I'm not sure if it's as good.

Sounds like you'd probabally like Yu Yu Hakusho and S-CRY-ed. Both excellent series, there's some "Leveling Up" aspects, and the plot(s) and fights move much faster than DBZ's.

Actually, I would think that the manga is much better than the anime. The anime lasts only till half of the manga, and the ending is not smooth as it is too sudden. The fighting is okay, but it is evident that there are two people drawing it, as there are two different drawing styles. This lowers the quality of the anime. In all, I would not really strongly recommend it.

I think One Piece is one of the best fighting manga series. I like this pirate adventure manga.
